Well in the past few months I've been getting into Virtual Reality... I've made a few threads on it so far, and I have to admit, not only am I hooked... I highly recommend jumping into the craze!

At first I was thinking the whole VR thing was going to be just a novelty... something nifty to try, but will soon become old and stale... fortunately I couldn't be more wrong... I find myself wanting to upgrade to the next level!

This Xmas I got a PSVR set... (minus the actual PS4 unfortunately) which I will be getting sooner or later... Just gotta try Skyrim VR, I hear its amazing!

In spring Oculus will be introducing the "Oculus Quest" which im sure I will be getting almost immediately... (yeah VR is actually that good)

that would make three VR sets I will own within the next 6 months or so...

As its been said by many people.. VR is impressive now, ITs a GAME CHANGER!

IF you have the means, I would highly recommend picking up an Oculus GO... its well worth the price even at about $240, and it goes on sale regularly... just before Xmas it was only $179 for the 32g set which was a steal... SO much so that the FB community for the GO had 700 new members over night!

Though Christmas is over (thank God!)… it would still make a fantastic gift for a birthday, Or just something to play with in your spare time!

in the past few months I've shot lots of bloody zombies... Flew a plane or two... raced GoKarts just like Mario Kart... I've flown through space, and even visited the ISS... I've stood beside the pyramids in Egypt, and walked around Machu Pichu!

All while sitting in my New swivel chair... (trust me you need one)

With thousands of games and experiences you really can't go wrong even though, some are not so great... but some will blow your mind!

And im pretty much sold on Minecraft VR, which I will be doing later tonight!

So IF you happen to be curious... or you have any questions about it... i'd be happy to answer

I guarantee within 5 years everyone will have some sort of VR device in their home

Mark my words ladies and gents.... VR is going to be Huge!

Cool! Lucky you

I thought your post would be about a virtual reality chatroom... people talking to each other from their homes with a VR set.

I am waiting for VR ice hockey. Some kind of short stick held by hands and the stick's movements are slap shots, wrist shots, passes etc

I recently tried an app called "Altspace" which is exactly that... a big chat room with tons of people as avatars

Its like the sims... it was pretty crazy, and annoying... yet still amazing...

problem was there was just a bunch of kids running around which didn't tickle my fancy much

Did you mean like this?

Whee! That is exactly what i mean. I was unaware of that. I have just been thinking that this next-gen VR thing is so new, that such a marginal sport is not yet out there.

I might have to try start saving some money.

Believe me brother... I was sceptical when I bought it mainly because it is pretty new

VR has been around for a while but its always been crap until recently... but I had no idea how good it really was until I actually got a dedicated device

I tried the phone verision, but it still seemed cheesy... felt like you're staring at a screen in front of your face.

You just can't compare that to the real thing! It needs to be experienced....

I wouldn't recommend anything I didn't support to this community... but again, this IS a Game Changer!!

Plus they have a great support team at Oculus... and a good time to try and return IF you don't like it

Both of those games look pretty wild... Never played either series... but it looks like you'd need a high end system to play them... but there is one thing I can say...

Theres a game called "elite dangerous" which can be played on the Rift... also requires a pretty slick system, and im pretty sure theres been a few threads on that game... I've been looking into it for a while now, even before I started with VR

I've found out recently that you can side load games and play steam VR games on the GO... And minus the 6Dof that the Rift and other high end systems offer... 3DoF on the GO is apparently perfectly fine!

In fact with the optics and resolution of the GO I've heard it actually looks better then it does on the Rift!

Now that I know this, im almost positive I will be buying "elite dangerous" in the near future

Point being... You might not need a Rift to play some hardcore VR games

the Rift is about $500... plus a cpu that is bare minimum $800, and that's a base requirement

the GO is a fraction of the price... and I've heard the experience is still amazing!

I picked up the PSVR about 6mos ago, it runs really good on my PS4 Pro. So far, the game that's been the most mind-blowing, immersive experience is Superhot VR... While sharp, the graphics are basic and polygonal, but that's part of the plot/story. Before you actually experience it, the best comparison I can make is Combat Training in the Matrix.

Intensely cool, check it out!

Oh i can't wait for that game!!

As i've said, i got the creed bundle for Xmas... unfortunately mom didn't know it didn't include the PS4!! LOL

Its the thought that counts though... Superhot is included in said bundle, but im looking forward to playing boxing in VR more then anything

I hope its good

Did you try the HTC ?

Honestly recommend a much stronger PC unless you like slowly incrementing your experience...need a 1080 card for sure it seems

I wish I could... my CPU just won't run a high end VR set

But I can run the games that it plays, so IF I find one like "elite dangerous" that I want, i'll be sideloading it to the OGO

that game does look very nice for this type of application...you are right..this tech has gotten very quickly alot better...and with barely any fanfare which is abit interesting.

Absolutely!!

And this is just the first generation of system... even the Rift and the Vive are still in their infancy, and from what I've seen they're pretty amazing!

I was blown away when I tried the GO... compared to the phone version of VR which got me interested... Well, you really can't even compare the two... its like comparing a humming bird to a Hawk

From feeling like you're staring at a screen to being in the game!

My next project is Minecraft, and elite dangerous... and I picked up a game called subnautica today that looks incredible for VR...

Eventually I will likely pick up a high end system like the Rift, but I will probably wait til the next gen systems come out... I have my eye on the oculus Quest coming out this april… so my plate is pretty full already!

Im just trying to inform at this point... VR is really incredible now

And theres so much more to come

I think it is time to set aside money for this..literally noone i know thinks it is any good...been burnt by mediocre offerings for the last decade...but something has changed...

Someone did an OP on VR about a month ago and got my interest...but i dont play skyrim...need something else to try and get some real fun going.

Throw 5 grand into this type of entertainment...i have the cpu and gfx cards cause built some miners early last year...i recall few years ago it could take multiple gpus to run solid perhaps..now just one of my 1080 looks like it should suffice.

Might have been me, IF not i'd like to see that thread...

I seem to spend a lot of time looking at videos of games i might want to try... Skyrim is on the list as soon as i pick up a PS4

Cpu's these days are outclassed a year after their release, so its pretty easy to find something that will run a VR set... i honestly wish i had known i was going to get into VR before i bought this laptop.. but C'est la vie!

Its been years since I've had a desk top so i'll be aiming for a crusher when the next gen systems emerge

Meanwhile... you watch when the quest hits the market this april

Its gonna kill it!!

what cpu are you told is bottom of the barrel when it comes to this ?

I am still using a I7 2700 K overclock to 4.2 usually that seems to have handled everything for 5 years pretty much.

This cpu has been amazingly strong and stable the entire time...had 16 gigs and 800 watt power supy
..upgraded to ssd few times as it gets better...1060gtx graphics asus analog soundcard helped alot too....but i will throw in a 1080 to see if i need or a 2080 if necessary.

Ah right... the modded skyrim thread... i remember that thread now that you mention it!!

Well my Cpu is pretty much bottom of the barrel... i should be able to run a Rift but apparently it doesn't like my graphix card...

My Cpu

7th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-7300HQ (Quad-Core, 6MB Cache, up to 3.5GHz w/ Turbo Boost)

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1050Ti with 2GB GDDR5

8GB DDR4 at 2400MHz (1x8Gb)

So that's about the bottom of the barrel... definitely will be upgrading when i decide to get the high end system
