In a comprehensive report issued Thursday, the Department of Justice's internal watchdog blamed a technical glitch for a swath of missing text messages between anti-Trump ex-FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page -- and revealed that government phones issued by Special Counsel Robert Mueller's office to Strzok and Page had been wiped completely clean after Strzok was fired from the Russia probe. The DOJ's Inspector General (IG) said that, with help from the Department of Defense, it was able to uncover thousands of missing text messages written by Strzok and Page and sent using their FBI-issued Samsung phones from December 15, 2016 through May 17, 2017, "as well as hundreds of other text messages outside the gap time period that had not been produced by the FBI due to technical problems with its text message collection tool." But when the IG went looking for the iPhones separately issued to Strzok and Page by the Mueller team, investigators were told that "[Strzok's] iPhone had been reset to factory settings and was reconfigured for the new user to whom the device was issued." The records officer at the special counsel told the IG that "as part of the office's records retention procedure, the officer reviewed Strzok's DOJ issued iPhone after he returned it to the SCO and determined it contained no substantive text messages." The officer wrote a note in an official log after reviewing Strzok's phone: "No substantive texts, notes or reminders." But the officer told the IG that she did "not recall whether there were any text messages on Strzok's phone," although "she made an identical log entry for an iPhone she reviewed from another employee on the same day that she specifically recalled having no text messages."

So it sounds like some "evidence" may have accidentally been bleachbit cleaned. I don't think something like surprises me, but for a completely different reason, it scares the hell out of me. If the "deep state" is this amazingly in your face "rouge", then what changed to make them not hide things like this a bit better? If you have no fear of the future, why?

What changed is a citizenry that is now just fine with socialism and a tyrannical government.

Progressivism won the popular vote, remember?

Once they get rid of that pesky Electoral College thing, then they are free to do whatever they want.

And they are so close.

So they just see it as a matter of time until they can do whatever they want, and the Trump Anomaly is just a bump in the road.

Interesting times, is it not?

What is so absurd is how many times this MO comes up and it just sort of gets shrugged off. I mean...immunity ...go ahead and destroy your computers...this. How in anywhere but bizzaro world does this kind of thing happen with just, 'Well, I'll be danged. Isn't that curious." sort of reaction?

Perhaps the guy didn't use the iphone for text messaging?

It does mention that he used his FBI issued Samsung one, though.

Perhaps having pockets full of 'phones wasn't his 'thing'?

That's the fbi and/or cia destroying evidence against the Clinton's.

Did you miss the memo? They've been doing it for decades.

funny thing isnt it? if joe schmoe destroys evidence, he or she is sitting in jail, and rightly so. but if you are of the right political persuasion, and part of the elite class of our betters, well then......no harm no foul I suppose. this country is heading down a troubling road.

well then, perhaps you should make a thread on that topic instead of derailing this one?

Not exactly as big as the few hundred million dollars of campaign funding violations, pay for play and abuse of office that is the Clinton Foundation investigation right now... a Grand Jury is asking questions.

Unlike the Clintons, Trump had his own money.

Not Russian and Chinese money.

Let's see where that goes, shall we?

Quoted for possibly the most ironic post I've ever read on ATS.

If you are Democrats you can do what ever illegal crap you want and know that you won’t be prosecuted. Republicans get prosecuted for even imagined infractions thwt were of course first done by Democrats. It’s BS.

Seems no different than the DOJ withholding evidence from the defense in many trials. Right off hand, the Bundy trials come to mind. They can lose the "evidence" or just hide it and say it is lost. And it's not just at the federal level it happens all too frequently in local cases as well---exculpatory evidence withheld in order to get a conviction.

This didn't start with the Clintons but it did become accepted practice in a lot of those federal offices.

sigh...We would have to go all the way back to J. Edgar Hoover to see the genesis of the problem. Too much power in the hands of too few people.

You do realize that, by definition, the Trump Russia collusion narrative is a conspiracy theory...

And you are a member of ATS.

Just... LOL

I'll paste this slowly for you, maybe it will help...

Conspiracy theory: Noun
English Language Learners Definition of conspiracy theory

: a theory that explains an event or situation as the result of a secret plan by usually powerful people or groups.

Melania Trump’s favorable ratings down double digits! Way more important than weaponizing the FBI and destroying the evidence that proves it!

Well, at least in the minds of the liberal socialists here on ATS rooting for the downfall of the US...as soon as possible...
