More It is unjust for Congress to budget a living wage for ourselves, yet rely on unpaid interns & underpaid overworked staff just bc Republicans want to make a statement about “fiscal responsibility.” If that’s the case, they can cut down on staff to pay them well. Or raise the MRA.

In her tweet, Cortez isn't asking for a raise for herself. She's expressing her surprise and dismay that so many staffers and interns have to work two jobs, one of them being public service and the other being food and beverage service! She's asking that staffers, and interns, be paid a "living wage".

Only in socialist La La Land would you propose to raise taxes on those barely making a living wage in low cost of living areas in order to pay low level government workers a DC living wage...of $80k+.

From the stand point of national security. That is what you call a security risk.

If interns are struggling it's easy for a foreign entity to come in with money and influence them.

Since it's not her own salary.

She has a lot to learn about life. Perhaps after her “inauguration” one of the intern’s will explain to her how the US government works, before she starts singing bills. I really can’t believe anyone would vote for her as there representive.

Public service is its own reward. If you don't think so then maybe you shouldn't be a public servant. Just saying. It's kind of their thing.

People that want to live comfortably get marketable skills and then offer them to the highest bidder so they can accumulate excess money which is then called: Wealth. /security.

Business is great for making lots of money. Start a business. Can't? Oh well. At least you have a job.
