I am skimming through various news agencies and I only see the media perspective. It keeps saying this is over gas taxes. And of course it could well be, but in my mind if anything that would probably be the straw that broke the camels back.

I saw a photo of police turning their back on Macron when he tried to shake their hands. I think there is much more to this - especially in France - than media is willing to admit.

Does anyone in France on this BB have a different or more concise view of this matter?

A recent news report:

I wish we'd hear more in the news about this...it seems to be really growing into something big in France.

I was under the understanding that it involved a draconian carbon tax connected to the Paris Climate Accord...which increases exponentially...and is resulting in enormously high fuel prices.

The MSM, apparently, does not want the world to know that the Paris accord is unpopular in Paris.

You are right, there is an anti eu thing going on but msm is trying to just stick to fuel tax, despite the banners many are carrying.

The French I know have very little disposable income after all the taxes. I think peeps are pissed off at the migrants as well. It's turning Europe to the right. Even Spain is going right wing apparently. And no wonder....they have had like 15percent unemployment forever.

no 11500 tax threshhold for social charges- so 20% on every penny you earn.
so 40-60% tax after the threshhold
and then you have your utilities and rent, tax de habitation etc
then they tax you on spending the money you already paid tax on (fuel duty)
in uk they just suppressed the wages for 20 years.
in france the wages rose so the employment dropped, needing more tax to fund those out of work.

Thank-you for the explanation. The people are being financially HOSED and LIED TO by their so-called leaders.

Change leadership. Get someone who is honest and understands that socialism sucks, if it's too encompassing.

IDK...it looks like the populace and the police are beginning to rally in support the protesters.

Didn't macron win the election pretty easily?
Is any of this a surprise to the French or is he just the recipient of the previous presidents Paris accord agreement?

Macron seems to be an enthusiastic proponent of the accord.

No riots in Germany because of gas taxes(but i believe yellow wests were seen in Bulgaria or Romania). Some people in Germany are angry because they were told that gas is more expensive now because of the drought this year, because too less water in the rivers, ships can´t pass the Rhine and other important rivers, while the gas is coming per pipeline from the Netherlands, Rotterdam, for example.

But riots of not Neonazis for ridicolous neonazi reasons, in Germany. Never. We would have real reasons enough, but we are not France or whoever else. We are quiet till we get drunk, then we complain a bit in the bar with other drunkies and go home to sleep, to be fit for the sh*tty job we complained about, the night before, in the bar.

If people would arrange a nation-wide strike, would arrange that everybody simply stays at home for a week, every second german would go to work anyway, thinking:

Ha, if I go to work and the others not, makes me look better in the eyes of my boss and i will not lose my job but get maybe even more money. There is no together in this society anymore, just an against each other. An egoistic society where everyone only thinks and works for his personal own profits. Even inside of families germans let the weakest go to the wall, for own profits.

To be not part of any protest is a kind of profit for most of the germans, as it seems. They don´t care for more then themselves, but not even that is done right, because then we wouldn´t be just working robots to make the rich richer. And every german would be part of a kind of protests, at least the majority of not rich people in Germany.

But germans simply believe and follow their leaders, till the bitter end, as WWII showed us.
Idiocracy!
