Shot the fare jumpers in the knee.

Is that an admission of guilt?

That way the tax-payers are footing the bill.

What, you mean like the medical bill?

Because you "shot" them in the knee?

Well, if you don't WANT to punish people breaking the law, then maybe hugs instead.

Hugs or shooting in the knee.

I'm good either way since I'll never live there.

DC has never been a place where stealing is frowned upon. The biggest crooks in the country reside there.

Using Figures from above:

$10 a day round trip x 5 days a week = $50
52 weeks in a year x $50 = $2,600 a year

Doesn't really seem like petty theft to Me, unless of course We assume these people aren't working steady jobs (but that's probably another thread...or Racist).

Exactly.

If I took the Metro from the station closest to me (which is one of the farthest out) to Metro Center it would cost $6.00 during peak times. In what world does it make sense to charge a $300 fine and saddle someone with a criminal record for avoiding a $6 fare?

How about applying this same logic to not paying for taxi fares? That would go over well I am sure.

So there's still a third vote required? I suspect it does not pass that third vote, which probably includes far more than the 13 council members on the Metro board voting.
