It's their village they can do what they want but in todays global era and the recent fiasco with Priest abusing children id say poor taste that Priest & parishoners should have known better But it was all fun & games a real festival!!

It perpetuates the authority of the Parish Priest and in turn the Roman Catholic Church........

www.tvm.com.mt... Video

Fr John Sultana, who this week was named the new parish priest for Gozitan community, Malta, was honored with a traditional parade by local followers.
A newly appointed parish priest is being accused of using his stature to put on a “ostentatious” public display, during which children were seen pulling a Porsche through the streets of a Maltese town with the clergyman inside.

Isn't this an over-reaction? Every July 4th my local town ferries dignitaries around in fancy cars. The cars do not belong to the people paraded. They are solicited by the parade officials. Usually they are pulled from the car show that accompanies the celebration. Everyone gets to see some cool cars. The homecoming queens and politicians wave to the crowd and throw candy. End of story. Besides, it's just a cheap Porsche, a Boxster, no less. Not like it was a Ferrari.

The problem is not the car, its the fact they have children pulling the car down the streets.

The kids had clothes on, so what's the problem?

Also, that's much more environmentally friendly than running the engine.

Being this is a "traditional" Practice don't you see the psychology behind it perpetuating an absolute authority over the residents & their children An authority that has been abused and institutionalized on numerous occasions ?

This traditional practice IS the prime example of that power that was abused . The mere act of subjecting your own children to pull thousands of pounds of a luxury car and a single Holy Man Standing Proud inside?? Where's Humility??

The Lord Jesus rode in on a donkey... young children didn't pull him along in a cart.

Only semi-traditional. The original tradition would have been a crowd of people pulling along a horse-drawn vehicle in place of the horse. I've seen old accounts of that kind of thing. It doesn't make so much sense when the vehicle has an in-built motor.

Really? 50 kids pulling a car? I don't see that as a problem. If someone drove the car people would be complaining about pollution.

Look I also do not like this but before anyone get's into turning this into a Let's Beat Up on the Catholic's thread let's get some thing's right first shall we.

Abuse is a pandemic problem in all part's of society today.
Recently we had a police officer over here in the UK whom was described as having joined the police in order to get the key's to the sweet shop so to speak and whom raped a 13 year old child.
uk.glbnews.com...
www.warringtonguardian.co.uk...

All positions of power and trust ATTRACT those that would abuse them for there own purposes, in this case child abusers.
That includes politician's, police, social workers and priests of ALL faith's.

Now were child abusers are concerned however they have there own community often sharing sickening images online and abusing as a group with even captive children some even sharing there own children around - this is simply a matter of fact they are definitely a danger to society and to the most vulnerable among us.

Such a group OBVIOUSLY formed within the Catholic Church, also within the Mormon Church and also within the Anglican church, they also exist among the Hindu's, Muhammadan's and Protestant's 'BUT' they are NOT those church's, religion's or cult's rather they are operating within them for there own benefit.

Genuine Priests do exist, men - AND woman whom felt the call to serve God often from a young age and sometime's in later life.

As a Christian I feel confident and faithful that those that abuse this for such perversion's WILL face the Lord's own wrath.

The Church itself is not Guilty however some college's of Cardinal's etc ARE very much Guilty and the Hierarchy of these faith's almost without exception have been polluted by these devil wolves in sheep's clothing.

The Church be that Catholic or even Mormon is actually NOT it's Priests, Pastor's, Bishop's or what have you but rather it is the people whom make up the Congregation of that Church, the multitudes among whom Christ walk's at every service were they are gathered in HIS name, the small family meat's were bread is broken and wine poured usually by the father of the family for his family and any guests in memory of Christ before there meal to give thank's.

It is not the fake priests, pastor's, bishop's, rabbi's, Imam's etc that are in it for there own perversion's to gain a place from which they can enact them upon there victim's, I repeat the it is NOT them men it is the very people they are abusing that are the Church, Christ is a victim AGAIN in each victim of this abuse and it is Christ himself they are raping and abusing.

Yeah but it does kind of look like a line up for selection of the towns tastiest morsels.
Considering the growing reputation of the CChurch maybe it should have included all townspeople not just kids.

Of course I see the psychology behind it, it has been the practice of all authoritarian religions throughout history. Maybe not these specifics but still, the same kind of control systems. Just as you point out. Just as all critics of Catholicism point out and have pointed out for centuries. There is no conspiracy there any longer.

As for Lord Jesus riding on a donkey, he also liked having his feet washed. And when someone criticized the woman washing his feet he told them to butt out because she was serving the Lord. So why not look at these children pulling this chariot with Jesus's representative around. I see no difference as far as the devotion to the faith.

Just leaving the criticism at the Catholic Church does not expand into the nature of all of the Christian faith, and as well the whole religious dogma of all religions.

If you want to talk about the pride of that priest, standing tall in that car, how about we talk about the pride of Trump as he proclaims that he is the smartest. The best. That he is the only one that can save America. All that BS about how great he thinks he is. If you want to see the falseness of that priest, how about all the falseness of Trump? Seems to come from the same overly infatuated love of self in both cases to me. How about you

How is towing a car a sexual act?

You seem to have lost sight of what the crime was, and to have applied your offense at the crime, to innocuous activities, by association.

The parade (or whatever) has nothing to do with the commission of a crime.

Personally, I can't see the point of the parade (it's pretty stupid to replace a cart with a self propelled vehicle), but it clearly isn't the sexual abuse of children, nor is it telling the attendees about the social pecking order.

Traditionally, they brought merchandise to the market on carts. They didn't deliver dignitaries on carts.

Jesus didn't ride in a Porshe, carry an umbrella, submit a thesis paper on nano-tech metamaterials, or microwave up a quick snack, either. There's lots of things Jesus didn't do.

Your point was?

2 Thessalonians
For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone's bread without paying for it, but with toil and labor we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you. It was not because we do not have that right, but to give you in ourselves an example to imitate. For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.

Matthew 6:1-34

Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. ..
Colossians 2
20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence
1 Timothy 4:1-3 New International Version (NIV)
4 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.

The apostle Paul, who was not married, asked the Corinthians whether he also did not have the right to take a believing wife (1 Corinthians 9:5), as did “the other apostles and the Lord's brothers and Cephas [Peter].” From this, we can assume that Peter was not the only one to have a wife.www.gotquestions.org...

I can NOT fault your point.
Jesus also said
if you have two coat's and your brother has non give unto him the one you are not using.
Go sell all you own and come follow me.
The son of man has no place to lay his head.

So in FACT Jesus is the one whom laid the true ground plan for a very real socialism but one that the so called socialists and communists of this world have been both unable to copy and indeed corrupted to there own agenda's often denying Jesus since to acknowledge him would have prevented them seeking some of there less godly goal's and as for the Capitalists both inside and outside of the corrupt hierarchy's of this world well what did Jesus do to the money changers whom he found in the temple abusing it for there own profit.

There is also the tale of Ananias and Sapphira
www.gotquestions.org...

Being part of the body of christ and members of an early Christian commune - which is what the churches functioned like and more like the later Kibbutz of early modern Israel they were supposed to give all they had earned from selling there possession's into the common purse were it could be shared out among the followers of the way as it was needed - so that the sick could be cared for and the well whom worked would also give all they earned into that common purse living as one body, clothed as they had need, sheltered as they had need and fed so that non was hungry.

So remember also what Jesus said to the mob whom were about to stone the woman.
He walked before them and picked up a stone himself facing them then said.
"Let he that is 'without' Sin cast the first stone", his voice of course carried authority and they felt shame for non of them was without sin so they dropped there stone's and walked away and he said "Then neither shall I" and dropped his own stone - but the meaning is clear.
Also he said.
For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye? 4How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while there is still a beam in your own eye

So it is very good that you know this and I too believe our true father is only the Lord - ESPECIALLY if we be of the body of Christ, I have personal reason's for calling no man on earth my father as well so that is actually a beloved verse to myself.

I have yet to see a modern Christian church that is not simply corrupting it for cult reason's that actually lives by the word of the Lord and just as they were persecuted in ancient Rome so too would they be in today's world.
This led to them creating many house church's and hiding there community among there enemy's so that early Christianity was a very secretive society in many places.
As it stand's I do have a great love for some catholic saint's, many orthodox saint's and all martyrs whom died for our Lord such as the Coptic, Catholic and other Orthodox as well as other denomination's saint's beheaded by Isis whom refused to deny our Lord and died for his name sake.
Did they live perfectly by the rule's - they lived as best they could in the society's that they were born and they DIED for believing in our Lord which is far better than seeking self righteousness by poking the speck out of our brother's eye's now isn't it.
And I have no doubt they are with our Lord right now even as I type this.

The church is full of hypocrites, why should their leadership be any different.

Matthew 6:19 - 21 says...

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Yup, that's one Priesthood off to a bad start...
