This article is not Earth shattering for it should be expected IMO. Anyone who only wants to tear down and go negative all the time becomes a psychic vampire on the general population. Looks like CNN and MSNBC are getting what they deserve and these numbers will effect their bottom line advertising revenue...I hope..

Fox News Channel crushed MSNBC and CNN yet again during the busy news month of October, topping both networks combined among total viewers.

FNC averaged 1.7 million total viewers to finish as the most-watched basic cable network for the 28th straight month. Rupert Murdoch’s cable news network also topped all of basic cable during the primetime hours of 8-11 p.m. ET for the fifth consecutive month despite heavy competition from Major League Baseball playoffs and other major sporting events, such as NFL and NBA games.

Fox News averaged 2.8 million primetime viewers as ESPN averaged 2.7 million and TBS picked up 2.5 million to round out the top three. MSNBC finished fourth, averaging 1.5 million primetime viewers and CNN finished a dismal ninth while failing to crack the one-million viewer plateau and finishing behind networks such as Hallmark Channel and HGTV.

How far CNN has fallen, oh my... could not happen to a better group of bias fake news idiots IMO ...

"All ratings info courtesy of Nielsen Media Research". Do you honestly believe that CNN or MSNBC would be showing/speaking of their dismal ratings..? If they were leading in the ratings game you can bet your bippie it would be the lead in story spoken of every hour ..

News is the presentation of factual and timely information.

Presenting multiple 'talking heads', with opinions based on the flimsiest sliver of fact, all the time, is not 'News'.

Winning a popularity contest doesn't mean that they are truthful, just popular. Remember 'Game of Thrones' has higher ratings than Carl Sagan and Neil DeGrasse Tyson's 'Cosmos' series, combined.

I’ve been watching the ratings for quite a while. I think they are a better barometer for American political positions then any poll .

Americans are tuning out of the liberal lies and tuning in to Fox .

That can only be good for conservatives going into the midterms .

I guess that means Fox News is more mainstream than its competitors.

Mainstream is not a dirty word.. It just means more people are watching Fox for their news than the communist cry babies at CNN

It's news for the right people.

There's no strawman argument allowed when it doesn't benefit them...
Guess who watches prime time news at 8pm to 11pm: ding doing.

Guess who's home watching news in the early morning to early afternoon : ding ding ding.

Guess fox news' targeted demographic... Ding doing.

People still watch t.v????

What are the ratings like for all the internet news sites?

My guess is that the views that would be watching cnn/msnbc are watching online rather then on t.v.

Also could you post the age groups of the people watching each network?

It does include streaming services offered by the network in their ratings so if someone goes to CNN and live streams it counts. as for median age CNN is 61 and Fox is 66. As a general rule below 30 really doesn't even watch the news. The target group for news is aged 25 to 54, the target demographic for CNN is 33 % , compared with 22 % of MSNBC and 21% for Fox News. But keep in mind its lower numbers means fewer viewers in the target group even though it wins by percentage. CNN is losing money and if Trump didnt exist i have a feeling they wouldn't even be here. This is why their business model is to be confrontational with Trump you see it in everything from White House briefings etc.

I completely sign up for this.

FOX is the only channel giving a normal regular newscast without freaking idiots toting around. Normal regular facts on the table and that’s it.

This year I have not been able to even once watch msnbc or cnn, no chance. Last year I watched once, almost puked. It’s really offsetting stuff they dole out - no thx.

I can’t take Comedy Central either, not for years. Since Jon left, it’s gone trash. But with Jon Stewart it was warm hearted, witty, and sane. Today, totally opposite.

The morning five with Fox is the closest to that warm, and sane, broadcasting, but with a lighter humorous touch. I know its not humor and jokes as with Jon, not at all, but the feel good sense is there. Even when Jon was giving Fox hard flank, it was nice, cosy... check yourself below... Not offensive. I did not take it red faced aped back then at all. But today’s brodcasts from CC are not such anymore - it’s propaganda, soviet circus, the whole way thru.

jon stewart giving it to fox

BTW: even weather is better with Fox...

Does anyone have a link to the original data by Nielsen Media Research? From some quick searches it looks like Fox News has been the top news channel for close to 16 years.

Who watches TV news anymore?

Most people I know get their news from the internet.

I'd be more interested in the demographics of FOX viewers.

I think that would be far more telling.
