This is beyond presidential power and Trump is an idiot if he believes he can change it without congress.

no changes are to be made to the 14th amendment though. he isnt taking away current citizens papers. he is deeming those illegals coming to try and get in as enemies of the state and a threat to our society with this decision.

Again not his decision the only ones that can interpret the constitution is the supreme court. Obama tried to change immagration laws as well and he found out he couldnt.

It's interesting to note that Mary Trump (Donald's mother) immigrated to the United States from Scotland in 1930. She became a naturalized US citizen in 1942 - just four years before Donald was born.

If Donald was born just a few years earlier, then by his own Executive Order he would not be a citizen himself (and therefore not qualified to be President).

You do realize how stupid you sound right? The whole point of Trump’s idea with the birthright citizenship mess is to end the whole anchor baby issue. Trump’s mother came here legally, became naturalized, and then gave birth to Donald. She didn’t come here illegally, while pregnant, in hopes of giving birth here to be able to stay.

Birthright citizenship does not cover people that entered the US illegally.

If you came through a the border by going across the border outside a US border crossing you are not covered by the 14th Amendment and the Constitution does not cover this.

If you crossed the border legally through a US border crossing then you are covered under the 14th Amendment and the Constitution.

This is what trump is saying and nothing else.

The fake news is not making this clear and is trying to confuse everyone.

Obviously there are other threads on this.

for my 2 cents though,
If you are born in the US, then other countries don't have jurisdiction over you...the US does.

If a couple from China comes over here and has a kid, China cannot demand that the child is a chinese citizen...as it was born outside of China, and therefore outside of their jurisdiction.

The US grants citizenship to qualifying children born outside the US.

A lot of nations grant citizenship to children born to their citizens, no matter where they are born.

Trump isnt going to try and remove the US citizens birthright citizenship though from ACTUAL AMERICANS.

"ACTUAL AMERICANS" includes anyone born in North, Central and South America.

This is what trump is saying and nothing else.

But the Constitution doesn't. There's the rub.

He also said that the US is the only country in the world which has such a provision.

Wrong. Again.

Does this effect his sons, since they were born before their mother became a citizen or is it just for brown people?

Well you would be surprised how many Americans on this site have been arguing that isn't the case...

I live in UK.

My boss and his wife came over here a few years ago from Poland. They recently had a son that was born here.

My boss came to work one day and he was quite annoyed. When i asked him if everything is okay he said no. He and his wife had been to the passport office to get a British passport for their 6 week old son but were told that isn't possible because they aren't British and therefore neither is their son.

My boss and his wife had assumed that their son would be entitled to a British passport/citizenship just because he was born here. Passport officials informed them that they are not British nationals, they hold Polish passports, and informed them their child assumes the parents' nationality and they need to get a Polish passport for him.

I don't see anything wrong with what Trump wants to do.

All part of NWO plan. Let immigrants poor in over boarders. Having deliberately allowed problem to grow then say the 14th amendment allows for denying citizen ship to them born in USA. What a scam. Are you also so politely asleep to see what you are being set up for.

Depends on how you define American. If you define it as citizen of the United States of America then no, you are wrong. If you define it as a citizen of any of the numerous countries on the continents of America then yes, but what does that have to do with the topic here?

Sure it is. This is how it gets to the courts. The 14th has always been interpreted and has never seen the courts. So one could argue using your logic Trump is the only one following the Constitution and ensuring this goes before the courts.

Actually that is untrue since she was a legal immigrant. So you should not post things that are untrue.

Says who? The courts ruled LEGAL immigrants are covered under the 14th. It has never once been determined the Constitution does not say what Trump says it says. This will go before the courts as it should.
