A freak hailstorm has flooded Rome, with ice drifting through the streets. There are images and video in the link.

This weather is not normal and to me as this whole summer another sign of climate change. It's maybe the jet stream causing this issues with it loosing strength due to change in water temperature.

I don't think there is anything we can do to stop this, but we need to start thinking how we can make our cities safer. Not just along the shore. It seems it's either drought or flooding. The Rhein has reached an all time low, because Germany doesn't get the rain it normally should.

Water will be the threat of the century, the lack of it and the sudden burst rain showers have become.

Well, to be fair, Rome, like Washington D.C., was built on a swamp. It has flooded historically for millennia when severe weather systems pushed through.

While that's unusual we occasionally get snow on our property in southern Italy 30 miles west of Naples.

Just visited there last week so good timing. I think the climate is changing as well, be it natural or man-made is only a guess. But, you are spot on with the water issue. I mean look at Hoover Dam. The Colorado doesn't even flow to the sea anymore.
Johannesburg's water supply nearly went dry this spring. Over a billion peeps live in water stressed area...WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!

I remember when it snowed 4 or 5 inches outside of Tampa Fla, I also saw it go from 92 one day to 6 inches of snow over night in South Dakota.

Sometimes weird stuff happens.

I think it's being horded by some evil genius in Africa somewhere. Oh, wait.....was that a movie, or real? Reality is fuzzy these days.

Maybe instead of trying to beat nature at her own game, people should just move inland.

Just a thought. Isn't f# with the environment what caused this mess in the first place, according to you people?

Then why would f# with the environment be the answer?

Just move. Morons.

I thought you wanted to get away from the rain.

Make up your mind.

Wouldn't that put you IN the Tyrrhenian? Or right on it?

oh my God, hail fell in Italy. the sky is falling! LOL

seriously what a panic over nothing. you even get [i[hail in the Philippines for crying out loud. there was even hail this year in the hot/dry season, a time where temperatures can go into the 40's C. (even in the cold rainy season the temperatures normally only drop to the mid 20's C, unless you are up in the mountains). and the Philippines is tropical islands, rather close to the equator (about 14 degrees latitude). so if you can get hail there, i don't see why you would think it couldn't happen in Italy (with Rome being about 42 degrees latitude). but go ahead and enjoy your fear mongering over nothing. gotta hype that human caused climate change somehow don't we?

Yeah, sorry. I usually can only make one serious post per thread. It's an important topic though, I have done a few on the water crisis. Perth is building some big water treatment plants to extract fresh water out of sea water.

We need the Romans back to build an aquaduct from the north pole.

If people get thirsty enough there may be war over water or they can just build desalination plants. There are oceans of water and the climate nuts say the seas will rise so problem solved.

That could prove to be impossible once the ice is gone. There's no land mass at the north pole. Desalination might be the way to go.
