The lottery is at $900 million plus...
So I went out and paid my idiot tax of $10.

Gotta pay to play.

I know it's like 300 million to 1 odds but some jerk has to win.

What would you do with your winnings?

I know a lot of people that would never have to work again but I have a feeling I would meet a crap ton of family I didn't know I had...
Elizabeth Warren family, but family....lol

do you mean the tax on people who aren't very good at math? Yep, on the wife's orders.

Because, eventually, someone will win. And you can't win without a ticket.
Besides, it's not even worth playing when the jackpot is only 20 mil, they would take it all in taxes.......or something.

yeah. i'll be doing the same.

I know that it's a futile effort. But if you don't play. You can't win.

I buy them about 4 times a year. The scratch ones. Just for fun. I don't begrudge myself that.

I wish they would use the proceeds to pay the national debt.

Except in the case it was a mandatory buy in by Congress and the white house.

$900 million is 0.000045% of the national debt.

I think you have a better chance of getting bitten by a shark, while flying on a plane that just lost 3 engines, while getting a hummer from Monica Lewinsky. So yea, I'm saying there is a chance.

Bluntone, if you win I think I'm related to you. I had my DNA test done and they said I could join Mensa. I am also half native American, half German American, half Dutch American with a bit of African Slave, but there's no need to apologize for the slave trade.

Yeah, i dropped $40 on it last week. Going to do another today.

While I know winning is unlikely, the fact remains your chance is even less if you don't play. Somebody will win. With the pot that high, I might as well throw my hat in the ring.

$900 million after taxes is what $540m. Then if you take it all upfront, it probably drops down to $300....

I'd probably allocate about $50 million for some philanthropic stuff and then have the rest of the money put in a trust that throws off about $1-$2 million a year in interest income. Since I have young kids who would be starting school soon, I can't really do my dream of roaming the earth endlessly in luxury.

I'd probably open a money losing business like a hobby shop (RC Cars, trains, airplanes, etc) or a coffee shop to keep myself occupied. Basically do something I love since money isn't really a problem. Maybe teach a class on personal finance / life at the local high school.

My highlight of the year would probably be acting as a secret santa to the truly needy.

$900 million!?!?!? -- shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, the DNC apparently needs over twice that much in order to lose elections!

Bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahah!!!!!

I bought my winner on Tuesday, and while at the same gas station, I lost $1.25 because for some reason that's how much it costs to fill up your tires with air. Too bad the GD mechanism at the end of the air hose that pushes air into the tire was broken. Hopefully the lotto will help me recoup my losses!!!

This is true but it would make us feel good like all their other fixes.

I just got my two tickets anyway. Why two...well even though my wife is literally a research scientist she had me get two. I am just a glorified carpenter but understand what that does for the odds.

The one thing I do know is if you win that kind of money, you better not tell anyone until you get your affairs in order .... basically changing your name and getting into a witness protection like program.

I can't imagine the phone calls I'd get from the worthless cousins and distance relatives whom I haven't talked to in decades... the alleged best friend from third grade.

Unless you already live in a somewhat wealthy / safe community, you'd probably have to move pretty quickly.

My only splurges would probably be a dream vacation home on Martha's Vineyard. A Singer Porsche restomod. An Icon Bronco. A few motorcycles. Definitely would get a new house, but it would be in my same neighborhood. Only a bit nicer / larger. A couple of watches on my bucket list. I could literally have every material luxury item I've ever wanted for probably $5 million.... including the houses.

After that, I don't really think much would change for me lifestyle wise...

That is an interesting point.
If you bought a single ticket, your odds are 300million to 1.
If you buy 2 tickets, your odds are now
300million to 2.

Many people believe it changes it to
150million to 1
