Ultimately up to the court to decide that, not us. But IMO, as soon as Dead Dougie screamed threats to kill both of them (again, the bullet through the old guy's skull stands out) he handed them the right to defend themselves if they deemed it necessary. And after the threats he was hurtling, it sure sounded & seemed like the odds were not in his favor for continuing to breathe. All it takes is one sudden movement nobody's willing to gamble on.
