It's Official: Bert and Ernie, Not Gay

And the world goes mad ...

So while the world is all wrapped up in the bigger hetero sex scandal unfolding over SCOTUS, there has been a smaller, muppet drama taking place.

For years, people have wondered "Are they?" about everyone's favorite muppet roommates, and now, it appears, we have the answer.

The makers of “Sesame Street” say Bert and Ernie, the classic feuding Muppets who appeared on the popular children’s television show, are not gay.

The statement came Tuesday after former “Sesame Street” writer Mark Saltzman gave an interview to online LGBT magazine Queerty Sunday saying the characters were gay.

One of the writers opened his big mouth and said something he shouldn't have, and the makers had to come forward to correct the record. Predictably, LGBT+Whatever other letters we're adding this week activists are not at all happy with this statement about the two puppets' orientation claiming that Sesame Street has passed up a prime teachable moment. But the Sesame Workshop's own statement says that none of the muppets have sexual orientations, so Bert and Ernie aren't special in any way by not being gay.

Remember, while Kermit is on Sesame, Miss Piggy is not, so their romance is not an issue here.



I think Frank Oz (one of the principal Sesame Street creators and voice of Yoda) is the sane one in this mini-controversy over characters not being gay.

Possibly because the LGBTQIPP? community is stretched so thin now that the loss of two possible muppet voters is a pretty big setback.

You also have to question their motive of once again trying to take a children's television series and attempting to make it all about sexual orientation.

I left that community awhile ago because they were getting too weird for me, a bisexual woman with a wife that occasionally invites a lucky male over for the weekend.

It's all political now, which is a damn shame.

It was once a place to talk about actual lifestyle issues.
