OK I'm mostly Nordic European (surprise)!

Part Neanderthal, yeah I know.

But you are related to the people in the Mid-east, and you are at least 2 percent Native American.

Grandpa, what did you do?
And I thought we never left our village.

Those tests are a bunch of BS. You came from the same person long ago and are the same as everyone else.

Why are your feelings mixed?

Because brown people blood mixed with the white Nordic or something else?

Honest question.

must have been the milkman, yeah?

Seriously though, I'd love to get a DNA test, then compare it to other close family members... I'm (apparently) born to a white European genetic line, that's majority olive skin with brown eyes and brunette hair... But then out of nowhere, I just popped out, with pale skin, blonde hair and bright blue eyes.

Kind of makes ya wonder...

Yeah all kinds of issues.

Let me think.

No, just that I thought I was "boring".

Interesting that after just 15 generations, although you have a direct ancestor, very little of their DNA will be in you. So, roughly 50% of your DNA comes from each parent. 1/4 grand parents. 1/8 Great grandparents. Continue this 15 generation - say about 1700, and you get down to small fractions. So you may be related to Julius Cesar, or Henery the 8th, but it will turn out that you have less than .0001 percent of their actual genes.

Unless there was a whole lot of incest going on.

But yet I am!

Break it down however you wish, at some point those were my ancestors.

Be happy! If it wasn't for them you would not be here.

What I am pointing out however is that unless a population shares a set of individual genes, they quickly become diluted, so minor traits like your nose shape or hair color, or even your physical build change over generations. You mostly would not look like an ancestor from 15 generations back, as you may look like a brother, sister or parent.

Certain genes are common - how to build your eye, or heart, for example.

The common placement of 2% neanderthal genes indicate that humans in Europe regularly bred with this other species of homo, so that it is so common that the genes have remained.

A bit of incest right there, hey?

Just some DNA.

These days you don't even need to get it yourself for them to nail you. If a family member gets one you're screwed. See the Golden state killer.

Columbus took several thousand Tainos to Europe.

What happened to them all?

Nobody knows.
