End to Stars or show usernames of who starred posts?

Members star and don’t star for different reasons. To assume why or why not is a process in discernment, and doesn’t always lead to the truth.

Like other posters I have starred members posts that are well written and explain their view well. I’ve even starred members I am debating with.

I quite often star posts that I don't necessarily agree with. Especially, some of the more hyperbolic ones that are sure to trigger generation snowflake.
Especially in these hyper partisan times.

In the past I reserved my stars for quality posts from either side of a topic I was interested in. Not so much anymore.

Is this a millenial thing or something or am I just really really turning old here? My ex-wife was completly addicted to "likes" on FB She didn't really care who it was from just the amount of likes...I guess it stroked her ego or something. Never ünderstood that..

But who cares how many stars a post gets? I forget to star and flag half the times and only the stuff that makes me think, laugh or feel in whatever way could get a star.

I more than often use the stars to notify my discussion partner that I've read their post and an answer can be expected..

Just my 2 cent....

Look around some members have millions of stars. Did they earn them?

I personally like the star system. It lets you know what other's agree with you. That's just nice to have sometimes when you're in a heated debate about stuff and you're like "am I the only one that feels this way?"

I star posts that I don't reply to as well. Sometimes it's just real life. I have to work, I have a family emergency, I have a phone call, etc...and I don't get back on ATS for an hour or a day or a week and that conversation and thread is long forgotten. That's why it's important to keep.

I would like to have some kind of system with the stars and flags and posts and applause and everything to mean something....whether it's an incremental level of something or an updated feature or I don't know.

Honestly, the closest I can come to how I see the star system is like a couple of guys in a gang, usually the leaders, who pick a fight and pummel the victim and then all the rest of the gang, the hangers on, fringe followers all jump in and add one more kick apiece to the ribs.

Interesting thoughts.
Anonymous stars seems a strange function to me, and I'm yet to read any replies with a good argument to support their wish to star anonymously.

i think not wanting someone like you to stalk them throughout the forum mentally accounting for each star they place is a good enough reason... but the point about the added cost of adding that functionality is also an excellent f'ing reason if you ask me.
