That screws over poor people to does it not? If my old man Wills me money, then why should that be governments business. Incentivise death tax to re-invest it for the recipient...like a 401k.

So is nearly every other nation on Earth is some form of debt. This is not about turning the country Socialist. I know people just shut down as soon as they think that, but the articles, again, if people read them, would make the case for paying back it's "debt" to the taxpayer who initially funded the technologies that were the basis of great inventions.

Sure, but not because the idea of EV's is bad, it's just that Musk himself seems to not be able to sort mass production for some reason.

The thing is, Bush granted the man a bunch of money from a DOE in "2010 as part of the government's Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing program".
He paid that loan back 9 years early.

BUT, while we smack Musk around, his big battery project in Australia is paying big dividends.
www.theguardian.com...

I think he just cannot get enough batteries....I don't know, but look at the EV industry and how consumers obviously want them. Major manufacturers are ramping up production.....GM is moving production of the Volt up 20%. That's another shift or 2 of workers.....who will pay taxes on their wages.

Please read the articles man. Jeezus....it wasn't always that way, which is the point I am trying(not very successfully) to make in the OP.

if private business is taking government funds to produce, wouldn't that just underscore that the OP is wrong?

No, because business is taking and not giving back through good jobs, benefits and other investments in society. They are wasting the money on stock buybacks and CEO bonuses.

Once again, the links explain it. Government has an idea. It bundles that idea into a program like going to the moon. It asks for specific requirements of which it assigns said project to NASA. NASA then invents said product(s) and later these get sold off to private companies who build and market said product.

The problem is that the investment used to go back to the taxpayers, but instead, since 1980ish, tax laws and such have allowed corporations to steer that money elsewhere besides going back into the economy. It is governments damn job to tweak the system every now and then....it needs tweaked now.

YES!!! Exactly. There has been too much manipulation of the tax code and the system no longer works like it once did. The Professors ideas are geared towards making the Middle class great again. lol

So business has no culpability at all for not giving a damn about our country??

Why should you get money for nothing?

Everyone should make their own way should they not? A meritocracy? Inheritances aren't merit.

Huh? Of course they do, that is what I am talking about mainly! LOL Business, through lobbying or whatever, have been manipulating the system. The Professor laid out some steps to solve that problem and give taxpayers a much better ROI. As in better-paying jobs, etc.

Well that's admirable of you on a personal note, but I'm not gonna say no. Besides, I doubt death tax would make much of a dent overall.

BTW, this has nothing to do with the OP...just saying.

The primary reason inheritances are allowed, is because it's very hard to legislate them away, because parents can give things to their children while they're still alive. How far would one have to go in preventing any gifts at all in society in order to eliminate it? It quickly becomes very overbearing, and starts having to stray into areas of the law that it shouldn't. It's a good principal in my opinion, but even I have to admit it's damn near impossible to ever legislate and enforce.

I could see it affecting small businesses adversely. Rich peeps make the laws after all. Make it like capital gains maybe? Allow it to be reinvested? Dunno.
