Obama said in 2008 "Both parties have monkeyed around." Guess he must be a racist.

It is very relevant to this discussion... The word "monkey" is used in many expressions that have NOTHING to do with racism... Desantis was talking about "embracing socialism," but your side has no real argument so you must use the "race card" every time...

POTUS Trump refers to MS-13 members as animals: The left goes unhinged and claim "Trump called all immigrants animals, he is a racist"... Then the left defends MS-13 members simply for not agreeing with POTUS Trump on anything...

POTUS Trump states he is going to go after illegal immigration: The left claims Trump is against all immigrants and is a racist.

And on, and on, and on, and on.

All your side has is to make everything about racism. I pity you and everyone in the left. You must be living a very sad existence which is why you are all so unhinged.

First of all I don't have a side.

I'm in the middle of the political spectrum.

As far as I'm concerned both the extreme right and the extreme left are batcrap crazy.

Desantis's use of the term was somewhat questionable. But I don't think he was using it as a racial slur. At least I would hope he wouldn't do something so stupid on national television.

The point I'm trying to make is that the OP is using whataboutism. Saying that because Obama used something similar in the past. That it makes what Desantis said OK. Like he gets a free pass. The other guy did it so it's ok for me to do it to. That's not using sound logic.

Has "M" become another "N" word? I need to know for a friend.

Monkeys throw poo and can be pretty mean sometimes........that is why I want one.

So who took what he said out of context? Monkey it up means monkey it up. By the standard that is being set with the PC crowd we are all racist, doesn't matter what you say or think.

Wrong again, the point is not "just because others said it it's ok"... The point is that the term is used without having ANYTHING to do with racism... Desantis was obviously talking about "embracing socialism" being a bad idea for Floridians...

I think the difference between what Obama said and what this guy DeSantis said, is that Desantis was talking about a specific black political opponent of his, and told the voters not to monkey-up by voting for him.

I do see how this is another instance of being too strict about what people can say. There is a high chance DeSantis didn't choose the words to be racist, maybe he didn't even know it could be construed into a racist comment.

I think it was a poor choice of word, not malicious..just my gut feeling.

But because he used the expression "monkeyed around" and because he is black he must not be a racist, but DeSantis is racist for using the same expression?...

The OP brought Obama into the conversation and brought up racism.

But, Obama didn't suggest that electing a man, who happens to be black, would "monkey it up".

His white half wanted to, but his black half stopped him.

(This is what a liberal told me anyway).

When I was waitressing, I had two phrases: "What can I get for you?" and "anything I can do you for". One time I got a little tongue tied and mixed them up addressing on a couple of young good looking men, and said, "What can I do to you guys?"

Sometimes, we mix things up and sound stooopid!

Perhaps you should stop trying to claim what the man said, and instead read what the man said.

DeSantis said: "The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases, and bankrupting the state..."

He wasn't talking about the race of the other candidate, but rather the socialist policies the other candidate wants to implement...
