So, Nils Guy, a recent immigrant to the US from England, got himself called up to go fight in Vietnam in 1969.

He was a fan of Queens Park Rangers football club and, wrote a letter into the club which they printed in the next matchday program.

One 11 year old boy, bundled up a letter, some programs, news clippings and badges and sent them. They ended up pen pals for the duration of Nil's service but lost touch after. Then, through FB they got back in contact.

What a great story. The imagery of Nils hunkering down to read about his club while bullets were whizzing over his head really made me smile. Follow the link, it's an awesome story and, if you are lucky you may be able to access the interview where they speak to each other too.

Cheers! Glad you got the (somewhat dated) humor.

I think that joke is timeless rather than dated
