There is a suburb in Perth, near Fremantle, called 'Cockburn' - it's pronounced 'co-burn'. Still, that doesn't stop tourists from calling it cockburn.

Lol! We dont have a silent "ck" sound in the English language as far as I know, but this doesnt surprise me. When I was in NZ I would hear people say "wh" words and sound like "fwh".
