Just caught a pretty big snake! (IN THE HOUSE!)

10:30pm and I'm sitting here at the kitchen table when all of a sudden I hear a mouse trap snap. I go over to check it out and over in the darkened corner by the back door I see the last couple feet of a really large snake slither behind a small piece of sheetrock laying against the wall by the basement door. WHOA! I jump back and go grab the flashlight. I get back and he's gone. Where'd he go?? I pop open the basement door and there his is! ALL SIX FEET OF HIM!!!

You have to look twice at bullsnakes because they look almost identical to a rattler, but I checked him three times. He was a bullsnake for sure. Now, even a bullsnake can give a fella a pretty good chomp (though not poisonous, they can get infected pretty bad). Now I had to figure out how to get him out of the house, hopefully without injuring him.

Chased him all the way down the basement stairs and across the basement. Along the way I found a 3' long piece of 2x2 and that's all I had plus the light to see him. I managed to keep him from going under something where I couldn't get him (which is EXACTLY what he wanted to do!! I finally managed to stop him long enough to pin him, then grabbed him by the base of the head and picked him up and took him outside and let him go.

I think Mr. snake was kinda pissed off about that deal, but at least he got to live and kill more mice for us!

Pretty crazy looking up and seeing a six foot long snake tooling across your kitchen floor!!

I just don't feel the need to use ATS as my personal blog to talk about every day stuff. Maybe I should follow your example though. Better yet, I'll just PM you my daily grind exclusively.



It's all good man. I admire the passion and voice you bring when writing prose. You are a gifted writer. I may post snark from time to time, but you can handle that, right?

Oh, I don't know; some people just are I guess.

I never used to care for them either when I was younger, but I rarely ever saw any then. Here we see them daily, and when I learned about the good that most (all) of them do I kind of warmed up to them. Anymore, I won't even really kill a rattler unless he's a direct threat to me or mine. Of course when they get comfy up near the house (or in the barn) that's a different story, but otherwise I just leave 'em be. They do more good than bad.

ETA...Bullsnakes get the golden pass. They're GREAT snakes to have around!

I have little shot gun shells that go in my 357, just for snakes..... When backpacking, the 2 first rounds are snake shot, the next 4 are hollow point hot loads for bears
