Wow, I'm looking forward to watch this. Robert Zemeckis, the director of "Contact," is the Executive Producer for this new History Channel series. It stars Aidan Gillen from "Game of Thrones" and Michael Malarkey from "The Vampire Diaries." Judging by the trailer, it looks like they did a good job recreating the 60's vibe. The incidents that are shown in this 10 episode series, are based on actual cases that were investigated by the USAF.

The series revolves around secret U.S. Air Force investigations into supposed UFO encounters and unexplained phenomenon, undertaken by astrophysicist, and eventual ufologist, Josef Allen Hynek in the 1950s and 1960s.

HISTORY’s upcoming new drama series 'Project Blue Book' is based on the true, top-secret investigations into Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and related phenomena conducted by the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1969.

Ugh. I hate drama. I just like those quick little UFO stories they tell on Beyond Creepy that only last 7 minutes or so that don't try to create a lot of nonsense conflict and that end with no questioned answered.

Looks like an update of a show I watched back in the 70's

It was like "Dragnet" with flying saucers - hope this one is better!

It looks good

however,

it looks to be very loosely based on reality.

very, very loosely.

Who here remembers the late 1970s TV show about Project Bluebook called Project U.F.O.? I think it lasted about 2 seasons.

I remember it being sort of cheesy (something you'd expect from a 1970s TV drama), and I think they tried to re-vamp it after the first season by re-casting one of the lead roles, but I was just a kid and I found it entertaining.

I recently re-watched "Steven Spielberg's Taken".

And it made me wish for another series like that.

This looks like it will be just that.

Can't wait to see it.

That's a different show than I meant. I was talking about an American show that was about two U.S. Air Force Officers who would investigate UFO sightings as part of the U.S Air Force's program "Project Bluebook".

HOWEVER, the show you are talking about -- UFO -- I loved that one, too. It was a British show made by Gerry Anderson, who also did "Thunderbirds", "Captain Scarlett" (both shows that used marionette "actors" and tiny models for sets) and "Space 1999"

And, yes -- that cool as f*** opening theme music for "UFO" has stuck with me for 45+ years. Occasionally I hear about someone looking to make a big-screen movie version of that TV show, but it never seems to come to fruition.

EDIT TO ADD:
By the way, Wanda Vetham, the actress who played Col. Virginia Lake in that TV show "UFO", is Benedict Cumberbatch's mother.

I have Project U.F.O. on DVD.
It looks like HISTORY’s 'Project Blue Book' will be the modern version of it.

I wish they'd do an official, remastered release of "Project UFO" on DVD and BR. But that's probably unlikely.
