On a weekend that's busy with post 4th of July activities, and people returning home from vacations, protestors shut down a major highway, to protest Gun violence in a city where LEGALLY owning guns is a difficult.

Thousands of anti-violence protesters have shut down lanes on a major Chicago highway as part of a movement to increase pressure on public officials to address the gun violence that has claimed hundreds of lives in the city.

Chicago police said the city saw 252 homicides and 1,100 shootings in the first six months of this year, a decrease from the same period last year. But those crimes have been heavily concentrated in predominantly black, low-income neighborhoods.

Pfleger and the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who's also leading the protest, argue they've already tried marching through neighborhood streets, outside churches and along downtown's Michigan Avenue, and that nothing has changed.
More w/video at: www.foxnews.com...

The protestors should march around and occupy Chicago police headquarters. The police have over 3,000 cameras in these violent areas of the city. They know who commits the shootings, right down to the facial features, and license plates of gang-bangers.

Shutting down an Expressway just makes people angry. Maybe angry enough to go outside of Chicago and buy a gun, in case the protestors decide to breach the "nice" neighborhoods one day.

in a city where owning guns is illegal.

What are you talking about?

But yes, blocking freeways is probably counterproductive.

As expected, CNN turns this into a racial issue.

"Shut it down!" and "Black lives matter!" the crowd shouted.

Why did you say Chicago is "Gun-Free?" Why did you say owning guns in Chicago is illegal?

BTW, Sarah lied:

"I think if you look to Chicago where you had over 4,000 victims of gun-related crimes last year they have the strictest gun laws in the country. That certainly hasn't helped there."

Ending the black-on-black violence associated with gangs might also reduce gun-related deaths just a smidge.

As expected someone here makes a logic jump without any facts to back them up.

Which part of what you posted is CNN turning anything into a racial issue?

Notice how you also left out this , "A demonstrator, Laura Hussein, told CNN that she, her 18-year-old son, and some friends and colleagues marched "because the cost of ignoring gun violence in Chicago is too high."
"Every week we lose women, children, and especially brown and black boys and men to senseless gun violence," she said."

None of that is CNN turning anything racist but rather reporting what is being said. So what am I missing with the turning this racial claims?

No. You interpreted it as a racial issue by being triggered from a journalist just reporting what they heard.
If there is a large presence of BLM present you're bound to hear chants from them.

Looks pretty RESTRICTIVE to me.

I particularly like the FOID card.

o legally possess or purchase firearms or ammunition, Illinois residents must have a Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card, which is issued by the Illinois State Police.[4] The police must issue FOID cards to eligible applicants. An applicant is disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or an act of domestic violence, is the subject of an order of protection, has been convicted of assault or battery or been a patient in a mental institution within the last five years, has been adjudicated as a mental defective, or is an illegal immigrant.[5] Applicants under the age of 21 must have the written consent of a parent or legal guardian who is also legally able to possess firearms.[6]

When a firearm is sold or transferred, the buyer is required to present their FOID card. This applies to private sales between individuals as well as to sales by Federal Firearms License (FFL) holders.[7] For firearm sales by an FFL holder, or at a gun show, the seller must perform an automated dial-up check with the State Police, to verify that the FOID card is valid, and to redo the background check of the buyer.[4] This additional checking is known as the Firearm Transfer Inquiry Program (FTIP).[8] For private sales not at a gun show, the seller must also verify the buyer's FOID card with the state police, and receive a transfer approval number, either via a web site or with a phone call.[9

The buyer is also required to present their FOID card when purchasing ammunition.[14]

After purchasing a firearm, the waiting period before the buyer can take possession is 24 hours for a rifle or shotgun, and 72 hours for a handgun.

ook County and the city of Chicago have separately banned the possession of assault weapons, as have several Chicago suburbs, prior to the preemption deadline of July 20, 2013.

I'm in favor of IDIOTS reading the GD Bill of Rights.

Begin with the Second.

Amendment II A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Pay close attention to the 5th,

Didn't we fight a civil war to end institutionalized discrimination?

Maybe those people in Chicago should stop protesting in favor of it.

These kind of people do not respect the rights and peaceful living of others. Those kind of people are bad for society. I bet they would be upset is someone inconvenienced them doing a protest to get their right to bear arms back.

Why are they protesting in a place where gun ownership is already severely controlled? That makes no sense at all, these people are living a life of delusion. As long as they do not come here and start protesting our people they can do what they want in Chicago. If they tried that here, there would be hundreds of hunters cleaning their guns by the protest, maybe they would even put up a gun swap tent there, I am sure that tent would attract lots of cops trying to upgrade their collections.
There are an awful lot of guns in this area, lots of deer hunters up here, they even give kids opening day of deer hunting off so they can get out with their fathers.

Some of the women go out deer hunting too. I'm an old buck now, I am paranoid that a woman might shoot old bucks.

If they are going to protest, have at it. What I can't wrap my head around is stopping traffic or trespassing.

Seems like a sure fire end to whatever the protest wishes to accomplish.

So they load up the ghettos with drugs, guns and ghetto violent rap, sit back wait for the fallout, then organize groups against guns, try to sway public opinion, then work on taking everyone elses little by little.

Ban Handguns,

Allow everything else...

Sorry, but I'd rather have something a little bigger to scare off riffraff

We'd also see, that it's not the case of legal guns on the street being the issue, the issue is the illegal guns in gang hands defending turf without the care of those around them, and the issue of how cops have grown tired of that, some to the point of being apathetic and racist and causing a deeper issue.

It's rarely the legal guns that lead to the bulk of issues, the recent school shooting crap is a different story is is a result of legal guns, but that's less a gun issue and more a mental health issue and poor gun ownership an lack of gunsafe an biometrics.

Loss of life is preventable, but so is stupid.
