I think most people would be lost without their phones.

I'm 38, and I feel the same way.
I work for a hotel, and these days when I see people gathered around the pool to enjoy the sun, they are all staring at their stupid devices.
The world indeed did end, and people are too busy liking and swiping to notice.
I feel very alone in the world. Damned dirty apes!
Why does it matter what other people do if it doesn't hurt anyone?
I don't really get it.
I only care about what I do at the pool, so long as no one ruins it for me (crapping in the pool, fighting, etc).
Why does everyone think that being nosy and criticizing other's behavior is so virtuous? It actually is immoral and immature to focus on other people and pass judgment like this.
But I can't even count the number of times that I'd rather stare at my phone (sometimes I don't even have it on, it could be dead) just so ppl will leave me alone and mind their own business.
There is some evidence that there has been a decrease in empathy in the last decade, especially in the United States. Although we’re not certain, misuse of technology could be one of the reasons of this decrease, according to some studies. For example, aggressive content and being exposed to characters who lack empathy may influence empathic concern negatively, whereas seeing prosocial acts on social media may help us enhance our empathy skills. Different features of social media and the content used in a given technological tool may also be important in this respect. For example, chatting, viewing photos, tagging photos, checking to see what someone is up to are driven by different motives and could be related to empathy in different ways – either positively and negatively. Another study showed that playing prosocial video games increases empathy.
We need technology; it makes our lives easier and more efficient. It provides us with vast opportunities to learn and grow. It makes us connected to others. But we also need satisfying, healthy social relationships. Empathy is one of the skills that we need to possess form and maintain such relationships. Let’s mind the way we use technology, rather than blaming technology.

Most of us now have devices in the palm of our hands that allow us access to most of the information of our entire species. Along with every form of entertainment imaginable.
It’d be weird to me if people weren’t taking advantage of it.

There is a wonderful lake along the coast of Oregon. It is high up on the coastal range. Surrounded by trees and forests.
It is always stocked with beautiful rainbow trout.
There are always choice spots along the lake to fish from.
It is quiet, serene.
Relaxing.
It also sits in a spot with no cell phone reception.

It's great to have the knowledge and ability to access it.......but do you need to be on your device 24/7 ? I really don't care about the strangers , but when I try to talk to my grand kids and actually have to try and disarm them from their phones it's rude and sad....don't get to see them often....and now I only see them around the back of their frick'n phone. Also, when on a vacation adult or child , wouldn't it make sense to look around and see the sights rather then texting or games on your phone ?

Its kinda annoying.
There are more big cat in the river and less poles on the shore. Win!
My vote is to keep the willful ignorant willfully ignorant. They seem fine not having a 1000lb cow love your neck every morning or watch the dew glisten when the sun rises. If they be happy, good for them and us.
OK, her name is Porn Star and she is more like 500lb. Not a year yet and Dexter are small.

Every time I tried to talk to someone who was devicing (guess this is my new word to describe), all I got was a look like .....why are you bothering me....hurry up and get it over with.......alright , you're old , so what do you want ? ......please , spit it out, so I can get back to my world.
WTF ??? So, what is your take ?
