All indicator's point to mismanagement being the main cause behind why they are laying people off. I can't even look at their product catalog on their website to see how many items they sell as a guesstimate of how much of a % of their total revenue their nails may be.

Being named Mid Continent Nail, I would assume nails account for a big chunk of their sales. I don't know if that is all they do. Maybe they sell pancakes on the side too.

There was a 25% jump on steel across the board and hording of us steel with just the mention of steel tariffs.
Steel suppliers have taken advantage of the talks and jacked prices, manufacturers are buying up all they can get at the same time.

A 25% jump in material cost to mfg is a huge problem when the market is already slow.

It's more than just wanting to keep current profit margins.

From what I hear, he has reversed or stalled the tariffs.

Which is a good move. But we need to move away from dependecy on China.

Building steel foundaries would be the right move imo.

Mismanagement, or inability to adjust to the 25% material price jump in a market that has been barely alive with the reduced new construction going on.

Building materials mfg is a tough gig right now.

Ok, same research on the right company here we go:

www.glassdoor.com...

Mixed reviews on Glass Door.

The company struggles to be competitive with other companies for talent because of corporate constraints on salaries. Most employees stay for many years because of the positive work environment.

Ineffective management in some areas, lack of action, tolerance of behaviors by some affects performance of many, poor short term financial outlook, not cutting-edge in way of thinking, stuck in status-quo, unclear on how to progress. Some senior management is very closed and protective of their turf and Indecisive..

Highly political environment, many incompetent upper managers who should have been fired years ago

www.bloomberg.com...:US-mid-continent-nail-corp

Mid Continent Nail Corporation offers construction and industrial services. The Company's line of business includes pneumatic tools, magnum fasteners, new account documents and bulk industrial nails. Mid Continent also provides wire coil, wire strip, paper strip, plastic strip, quality bulk pallet and wire coil pallet nails.

residential construction has been basically dead for new construction in my state since 2008. Most smaller contractor's went out of business and their clientele was absorbed by the bigger corporations with large profit margins.

www.marketwatch.com...

The big picture: In March, outlays for public sector construction projects were little changed, but private-sector spending fell 2.1%.

IMO most of the spending is being done on credit, we are taking more money from banks than we ever have before and not people writting checks

we hardly ever work for younger people but once in a while we do

I think we are very close to a recession inflation has been pushing everyone out of the market for a while now

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head.lol

Same here, I used to build homes. Used to.

I saw some guys take massive losses. Bankruptcy, leins, lawsuits with subs, subs burning down builders house, etc...

-The guys who had too many homes to sell when it went down in 06 ish got hosed bad.

I luckily didn't get too far ahead and get nailed. Just one off high-end spec homes.

We are one of very few companies to survive and we only have about 7-10 people we can mostly keep employed. My father was running 4-5 crews and keeping them busy full time before 08.

We are known as the best at what we do which is hardwood flooring and other wood related kinds of carpentry usually almost all of the construction companies in our area will refer us out and we are barely surviving.

I'm personally only doing this until I finish my CCNA and changing locations.

Oh yeah and it's very risky, very risky we have lost a lot of money on jobs and gone reeling. Costumers are harder than ever to deal with as well.

Do you realize that Ivanka and Trump still have their mfg. products outsourced overseas?

Wouldn't that also mean that the tariffs for imports apply to their businesses as well?

I think we're just talking steel at this point but..

How can Trump change that as he was forced to give up control of his companies when he took on the mantle of becoming President?

so if Trump backed away from his steel tariff this is actually a fake news story then right?

We get it, all you care about is making anti-Trump posts. If this company ends up doing well you will move on to the next topic. Russian bots could learn from you.

Guy probably buys cheap Chinese steel and sells a low quality nail.

Do you have proof of that or are you just slandering a man because you don't want to face the issue?

If your business fails because you can't use sweatshop labor anymore, go and see how many tears the average Joe cries for you.

Do you have any proof that skarich was doing anything like this?

I think this is what you hope he was doing. Anything so you don't have to criticize trump right.
