No. Not really a big deal.

Presidents have the right to do these sorts of things and it seems normal for presidents to give audience to other elitists, to listen to their wants and desires.

This isn't going to change my opinion of Trump much but I think he did a good thing here and should be recognized for it.

Ms. Johnson was basically a go between who passed along messages in a drug trafficking operation. From what I've read, she didn't personally handle, sell or direct anyone else to do so. Prosecutors got 10 of her co-defendants to testify against her for reduced sentences and she in turn got life + 25 years which would be outrageous even if she was personally trafficking narcotics.

If you read her back story, it sure doesn't seem like she went into the drug business for any reason but desperation. Sure, she made mistakes along the way and she deserved some punishment for her involvement in a criminal enterprise but not life + 25 years ffs.

So, good use of presidential powers in this case.

Has Trump pardoned anyone who he wasn't either asked to pardon by a celebrity or that had political benefits for him personally? Has he reviewed any of the non-famous people's pardon application that are sitting in the Pardon Office? From what I've heard of his pardons so far, he hasn't gone through the Pardon Office on any of them.

I highly doubt it! Nothing like catering to celebrities and the rich. I thought he was for the working class? Many of his pardons have been given to well publicized cases.

No President should have absolute pardoning power. This is just too much power given to a U.S. President without any checks and balances to his decision. Pardoning power without evaluation by a non-partisan committee should be left to dictators. A title Trump would love.
