I bumped into a black girl at a parking ticket machine the other day with beautiful braided hair, I said "your hair is beautiful" she smiled and said thanks it took her mother a couple of hours.
Compliments are the way forward.

I was teasing fella, not being rude or unkind.
It's a British colloquium term.

As a kid I never did many compliments, shyness really but these days I always give a smile and compliment things that should be.

A smile and a few kind words gets you far, makes people's day's and ultimately it's a lot easier to compliment than holding pent up social anxiety. Having kept 1000's of doors open, kind words given and genuinely being kinder to people I can honestly say never have such deeds been received in a bad light.

I hope that never changes here in the UK, it's a part of our identity... Like our telephone voices

Can't say I've ever appreciated painted nails , gingers/redheads I do have a soft spot for though.

Funny that, I did the same thing to a petite and beautiful black woman the other day, made her day and she mentioned not many people even talk to her never mind offer compliments.

I guess people can be a bit slow to change at times, shame really. Beauty has no colour or creed and this lass was a true beauty.

You were sporting a ‘chrome dome’ (shaved head)? Just because?? That’s baller, if so!

Regarding compliments, it’s a tricky internal dialogue/proposition for an American cis-male.

No it's not. If you see an attractive female and wish to compliment her, do so. If you wish to flirt with her, do so. If she rejects the compliment or makes it clear the flirting is unwanted, move on. My God, why do we placate this PoundMeToo nonsense and give it any additional power by kowtowing to it?

Right? I mean seriously, wtf was the Eastern District of NC Federal Court doing in having us convene and provide us — albeit an unwanted one, but surely one I benefited from — the opportunity to meet different people with differing views, somehow broadening our life experiences and collating other viewpoints?? Clutch your pearls! It’s akin to banging around an Internet forum making declarations about the newest nonsense. PoundMeToo? I hope that’s not your material. Speaking of material, if decorum is your bag, quote me in full or don’t bother at all — ATS expects better, maybe not you, but surely ATS does.

@OP: I haven’t gotten a ‘hall pass’ — as of yet — or been clandestinely sizing up any new strange, so take my ‘advice’ with a been-off-the-market-for-a-couple-years grain of salt. After all, it was jury duty, only a select cross-section of America is able to truly get off jury duty in good conscience (no sarcasm, no BSing). I’m glad I never have to do it again, because it’s a b$tch having your parking validated, but I do feel like it was an overall positive experience and the whole of my quote concerned what those others thought about it, too/in addition. We didn’t take votes, so again, just relaying and not declaring anything.

And last thing: nails can be a tricky proposition. Never wanna have your mates point out your t-shirt is stuck to your back. Knock ‘em dead, killa!!

If I ever verge into the creepy field I do my best to explain. Seldom ever happens though, I like a bit dialogue before I push the boat so to speak.

Yeah... People who come over too strong or creepy makes me cringe at times.

Don't forget the other polite action, let ppl know they have stuff In Their teeth or hanging from the nose! I was helping a nice lady the other day at the gas station and chatted her up like I do with lots of strangers every week. She was going to see Deadpool with her friends at the cinema. But I noticed she had gotten some lipstick smeared onto the teeth. I told her straight up, "hey, I hope you enjoy the most important. But before you go, just walk into the bathroom for a moment and hit the mirror, you got lipstick on your teeth."

She was very thankful and appreciated the heads up. I always give people a heads up if they got a stain or a booger hanging . Nobody wants to be seen with that and just people snickering quietly to themselves.

Funny I found this thread. I just had a discussion with my youngest son, he's 26, today at a store, about being nice. He's been having a bad time lately, and I told him not to let things get him down. And that being nice to people, is actually good for his state of mind.
I told him that just one kind word or sentence to a stranger, could change someone's life. You just never know.

Personally, I think if you can find one thing, to compliment someone on, be it their nails, smile, hair, whatever, and mean it, not only are you helping them feel better about themselves, but you will feel better, and they may pass it on to someone else. We sure need more of that!

Good for you for spreading the kindness!

I think we all do at times lol.

Things are never as bad as we play them out to be though, tends to come with a bit relief when we click on.

No compliments anymore but, I'm old so...LOL
I like to compliment people on whatever.
If I like their shirt, shoes, outfit...whatever or just folks being nice to one another, you know.
I work with some folks who don't receive a lot of compliments from folks who don't know them and we spread them around like jam...makes the day happier.
Ugliness and negativity can spread infectiously just like happiness and love.,
Choose well, IMO.
