Facebook has announced the end of their controversial âtrending newsâ feature. It is to be replaced by a âbreaking newsâ label that it is testing with a select group of 80 publications. Facebook has not yet said if the feature will become available to all publications.
Facebook said they will replace trending news â the list of âtrending storiesâ that appear in usersâ sidebars â with three new features, one focused on breaking news, another on local news, and another on video.
Facebook indicated that they will discriminate against sources the platform doesnât deem to be trustworthy, saying the system is designed to keep users informed of âtimely, breaking newsâ while âmaking sure the news they see on Facebook is from trustworthy and quality sources.â

Having an account on Facebook is a choice. Everyone has the ability to choose whether or not to accept what facebook changes. It is regrettable that the trends have gone full 1984 but no one has to accept it.
It sucks but I mean you got options haha.
In soviet Russia face book uses you!
I vook farword to your comment comrade. For Stalin!
Who the hell uses FB as a reliable news source to begin with?!?!?
Or what percentage of those accounts are actually Russian . FB keeps sending me notices that many many people and friends want to talk to me . I don't have a FB account that I know about but my son asked what the deal was with my FB account the other day . I think Google gets a name somehow and then runs with it .
I wonder what percentage of Americans have an active Facebook account?
