WASHINGTON—Canada will impose tariffs on dozens of U.S. products in response to President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Thursday.

Trudeau described the U.S. tariffs, which Trump’s administration announced earlier on Thursday, as “totally unacceptable.” He said the administration’s “national security” rationale for the tariffs was “an affront” to a country whose soldiers have fought and died with American soldiers for decades.

And so it begins. Canada is roughly on parity with the US in terms of imports and exports so it will be interesting to what if any impact is made at all. I think given Canada, the nice guy on the global block, has taken this step it's only a matter of time that the EU and China follow the same route.

Awesome! Let's see how many fights we can pick in the shortest amount of time with other kids on the playground.

Whoever picks the most fights by the end of recess wins!

That's what our foreign policy feels like.

You do realize Canada being a NAFTA partner with America makes them exempt from tariffs right? Besides Canada relies on far more goods from America than vice versa. Canada and their drama teacher prime minister will come to heel.

With this I agree with Trump.
We must fix our unfair trade deals.

Which country is strongest and will be the last one standing in an all-out trade War?

I put my money on the United States of America.

What's wrong with negotiating for a better trade deal?

Better for who? Not the consumer or the exporter.

Canadian tariffs on imports from US:

soup to boats to toilet paper to playing cards.

What will the Canadian Casinos do next year without US manufactured playing cards?

People meanwhile ask if the Trump "U"SA is starting a trade war it will lose,or if we see the first signs of an "U"S war economy. Ok, every "U"S economy is war economy, because the "U"S is always at war with somebody, somewhere, far away from domestic ground.

Nobody would be surprised, everybody knows that Trump is controlled by the military-industrial complex, by warmongering beings like Pompeo and Bolton and all the generals around the donald of all donalds. And every crumbling "empire" tried to save itself with wars, before going down the drain.

That complete behaviour of the Trump "U"SA reminds me of what the Nazis did, before Hitler started his not to win war!

Hitler wanted war with almost the whole world, Trumps wants a trade war with almost the whole world, except with those that kiss the Trump "U"SA`s a$$. If it are not really the first signs of a renewed "U"S war economy, for a greater war now. And not only a trade war against the whole world, that Trump can´t win, because that "U"S lone wolf hero thing might work in hollywood movies, but not in reality!

I can't say since I'm not an expert on trade deals and import/export taxes and tariffs.

Are you?

Really. Just asking because everyone just seems to be picking his/her favorite economist and regurgitating what they say.

My favorite go-to economist is Thomas Sowell.

And he is against the trade wars that Trump is starting. But I'm not sure why since I am not an economist nor do I pretend to be.

The only thing I do know is that people have been over-reacting to anything Trump has done in the past two years and I've laughed myself silly as a result.

*shrug*

Nothing else any of us can do, when you get right down to it.

Interesting comment since your president stated that renegotiating NAFTA would be easy.

You, and Trump, will find Canada far more resilient then anticipated.
