Spikes in chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis take STDs to record highs in California

California reached a record high in the number of sexually transmitted disease cases last year, with the state seeing an overall 45 percent spike in the number of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis cases over the past five years.

The data, which was compiled by the California Department of Public Health, revealed chlamydia and gonorrhea to be most rampant among people under 30, with rates of chlamydia highest among young women. Men accounted for the majority of syphilis and gonorrhea cases.

For California to have a steady increase in congenital syphilis is shameful,” Dr. Jeffrey Klausner, a professor of medicine at University of California, Los Angeles, told the Associated Press. “We’ve known how to control syphilis since early 1900s. Seeing it come back like this is a sign of failure of the public health safety net.”

Spikes in chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis take STDs to record highs in California

I'm sorry but that billboard has me just dying laughing. I know this isn't really a laughing matter, but that's funny.

Anywho...why is there this massive upsurge in STD's in CA?

My real interest is in where exactly are these cases popping up and what the ethnic breakdown is.

Now what is REALLY funny to me about this particular article is this:

The health department's chief of the division of communicable disease control also placed blame on social media.
"It makes it easier for people to meet people they don't already know to have sex," Dr. James Watt told the San Francisco Chronicle. "The internet allows for broadening of sexual networks, and the broader that gets the more opportunity you have for sexually transmitted diseases to spread."

Then they go on to say this:

The state's homeless population of more than 130,000 people accounts for about 25 percent of the nationwide total, with clean up efforts associated with the communities topping $10 million in 2016-17. Maintenance crews have been tasked with cleaning up feces, urine, needles and other dangerous materials as the cities grapple with how to handle the surge of homelessness.

So....are the homeless in CA well enough off to have access to the internet, social media, etc? And have the savvy to create a post or profile to engage another homeless person of the same disposition? Or maybe clean up enough to create a profile on a match site and entice a non homeless person into their crib?

Does anyone else see the irony in these excuses?

My bet...we are seeing the beginning of a larger issue with illegal immigration, and no...not just hispanics....

Forget that. What are they going to do about their cockroach problem in So Cal? They're not pets, sheesh.

The problem as I see it--no one wants to admit it's a craphole. Ignoring this because it hurts feelings gives rise to every other problem.

I think it's funny there is a sociopath in the WH..and the biggest issue you think exists is people getting it on.

..Funny country.

So...you wouldn't care if you got a STD? Are you from the US?

And while I am sure there is a sociopath in the WH...I am not sure who you aelre referring to as there are MANY people in the WH.

Either way....whomever is a sociopath in the WH has absolutely nothing to do with this thread and is not part of the source or my post so I'm confused as to why the feeble attempt to derail.

Bahahahaha.

Here's a hint: Any Californian that's half smart and has money, is fleeing.

Bad thing is, they bring their Californian entitlement with them.

Damn, dude! You had me laughing, too...then you had to add that unnecessary equivocation regarding "the ethnic breakdown is". Whatever. Black, brown, yellow or white, it's all the same...unless, of course, you've had the misfortune of not diversifying your portfolio.

Get off ATS and back to X-Hamster (not sure it's hyphenated), PornHub, Xvideos, or wherever Stormy is hawking her talents -- I'd wager your IP address is a frequent patronizer of said establishments.

Here's the thing about CA.

You either feel like you're on the set of Mad Max, or you feel like you're on the set of Sunset Boulevard.

Do you really want to be in either of those?

Let that sink in a few moments...

How many "coke and rum"s should we have before we let anything sink in? Just asking.

I don’t think this issue has much to do with illegals as much as it has to do with just the size of the population. Take LA for instance, a massive homeless population and most have a cheap smart phone. Now take in the fact that WiFi is widely available there. The poor in a lot of cases trade sex for drugs or housing.

Unless the population grew by 45% then the population size couldn't have had anything to do with a 45% increase in one year.

Sure...wifi is all over the place. Are you under the impression that having a device you have service for and are able to charge is a given for homeless people?

If this is actually the case then CA is more screwed than I thought.

I apologize, Vasa Croe, I let my personal feelings get in the way of the topic.

If you want my opinion, it easily comes down to overpopulation. It's not a spike coming out of left field, it's a trend that follows the same path as population increase.

A massive influx of people from third world countries definitely has something to do with a rise in STDs.

Mexico,Honduras, Guatemala ,Belize, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama...

Those undocumented people flow into California like wine.

Or sewage, depending on your political affiliations.

Nice...not the mudpit here and yes #MAGA

And no...I'd venture to say the breakdown of those with these STD'S is not racially the same.

I'd even say we could see exactly where it came from should we have the ability to see the ethnic breakdown and follow the trail of cases by date of diagnosis.

See...what many, obviously including yourself, dont realize is that these cases and statistics are tracked...and easily so....and they aren't just randomly hitting CA accounting for a 45% increase.

Even a smart phone with no service can use WiFi. Now I am sure they would have a very hard time charging the phone but idk. I don’t live there and when I visit I sure as hell don’t go there. But if charging is a widely available opportunity I can see benefits and down sides as in your OP.. Either way California has some serious problems but also has some very good things to bring to the table. I guess the same can be said for every state. Except you New Jersey. Your out

For your drunkenness or ignorance? I can't apologize for either of those, but I can surely point to them -- the beauty of ATS.

Please detail my ignorance. Am I imagining what the state is like? It's not like I don't spend copious amounts of time there (hell, even lived in the Bay Area a while.) It's not like I don't see all the Californians rushing to GTFO.

As for the drunkeness, you act like it's a vulnerability of mine.

i would think that the rise of STDs is from apps like Tender. so many booty call apps for the smart phones that it was only a matter of time before there was an increase.
