The US Navy is looking a system that would in effect provide hard kill defense capabilities for a variety of aircraft. At present most defense systems either blind oncoming missiles, confuse and divert (like flares), or disrupt the radar/guidance to achieve a soft kill of sorts. This system would be placed on large support type aircraft like the -135 family, transports etc. The other application would be in a UCAV which could in effect follow say a strike aircraft and provide backup during a combat mission. This comes on the heels of NG recently receiving a patent for a stealth aircraft kinetic kill missile system. Lasers for self protection may not be as close as we thought or perhaps are cost prohibitive to equip the whole flet so this may be a second tier protection system

Its an interesting read

Interesting concept. The only thing I had problems with the video, is they show a stealth fighter being targeted by everything lol. I know the program they are wanting to forward is for tankers, cargo etc, but still..lol

Side Note: that is a cool website never seen it before thanks!

Basically an Active protection system for aircrafts. They shown this technology already in movies like "Chronicle of Riddicks". When the mercenary sends a decoy probe, but failed to escape. Can't find the video.

Well they did escape, except Vaako used a lenser to find residual ion trail traces that led off world which the Lord Master then dispatched Vaako to go and cleanse him but I digress

Most AF have (and Navies) used drone decoys for some time now.

i was going to say, i swear to god i have heard about this?

still a cool idea, the XB-77 hade the WYE PACKET interceptors on it that i guess were going to have optional small yield nuclear warheads to intercept sams. mind you they looked like disks that were able to fly upwards of MACH 7.

however most of the info is still classified, nothing new under the sun(idea wise).

What kind of rules are there regarding recovery of UAVs with kinetic weapons on board? These things still have the reputation of being lawn darts.

With Russian high speed torpedoes, I'm not sure any ship is really safe.
