Trenton McKinley lost consciousness two months ago when the trailer he was riding on flipped over, leaving him with little brain function and barely breathing. Jennifer Reindl, his mother, was told there was little hope for her son, adding he was dead for 15 minutes at one point. “They told me the oxidation problems would be so bad to his brain, that he would be a vegetable if he even made it,” Reindl told Fox affiliate WALA.

Several days after the March accident she decided to sign away his organs after being told there were five children who were a match. “We said yes, that also insured that they would continue to keep Trenton alive to clean his organs for the donation,” she added to CBS News. He was scheduled to be taken off life support, but suddenly showed signs of function a day before doctors were going to pull the plug, WALA reported. Since that time, he’s regained most of his functions but still deals with seizures and nerve issues on a daily basis

Wow it would be weird to wake up like that and remember nothing and not realizing that in the brave new world you are day away from gov. sponsored organ harvesting.

I am glad this kid survived.

What a miracle that Trenton woke up one day before they were going to pull the plug. So many lives have been ended by Doctors who told parents there was no hope.

Trenton says he went to heaven.

“I was in an open field walking straight,” Trenton said. “There’s no other explanation but God. There’s no other way.”

Thank God.

This is one of the reasons I am NOT an organ donor nor will I ever become one. I don't want anyone to have incentive to cut me up prematurely. Make sure no one benefits from your death and you will live longer.

Do you have any organs still worth salvaging?

Um... they don’t take your organs till you die... they don’t kill you to take your organs.. obviously

If anything being an organ donar saved his life as they prolonged life support removal to prolong the organs’s viability.

This is like a concrete example TO BE AN ORGAN DONOR!

Lol

if anything this is an example of the need for public hanging of health "officials"

We clearly have no idea how capable the human body is at recovering, but it's clear the amount of greed it is capable of and such sickness should be eradicated.

I've read a few articles lately about this kind of thing. I guess they need to start running another sort of test before declaring someone braindead, because braindead people are recovering and the research on animals shows our concept of braindead is wrong. The test is being developed, but it will be a while. They had ideas of how to test, but it isn't so simple to design this test. It isn't a miracle, I guess the brain can turn off and still maintain itself with just the background noise in the brain.

How many people have been talked into giving up and having the organs donated. This inforrmation only applies to a smaller percentage of the people that are pronounced braindead though. Maybe a couple of percent. Now, some meds and lower blood levels in the brain do cause some people to stay sleeping. There is a reduction of brainwaves in some cases, but usually some that show it is ok.

I was tired when I read that article at about two in the morning one night, I was dozing off and can't say I got it all correct, so far they are starting to do more research, but getting funding may be a problem. Donated organs are big business, hospitals make lots of money on transplants. So, if people decide to wait, organ donations will go down.

Aloha akbar!

Praise the Lord Jesus!

What will be will be.

Explain that, science!

Never give up.

Hopefully this kid will understand why his parents wanted to chop him up for parts.

Keeping someone on vegetative life support is big business, too.
Hell, just a simple hospital visit is big business.

Actually no it isnt an example to be an organ donor but an example WHY NOT TO BE.

In this SPECIFIC case they kept him on life support to "let the organs clean out"
what they didnt go into detail is what treatment for his injuries did they NOT DO to preserve the organs viability that may have sped up his recovery or help him recover.

what if those treatments may have had him come conscious sooner that were not used to preserve the organs?

I read an article on this years ago how some ways of trying to save someone life in a horrible accident would make organs not viable for transplant.
How doctors may (with or without malice) suggest not treating someone who has low chance of recovery so they can "save the life of others" by harvesting the organs.

A grieving family member who has limited time to decide and even less accurate medical information could be (again be honest or with malice) influenced to stop treatment (be success low or high) by doctors so they can get the organs.

Given how limited the supply is, how desperate people can be, and the elephant in the room of MONEY/MONETARY REWARD for organs you cannot dismiss the possibility

In conclusion this story reinforces the belief in not blindly signing up to be an organ donor.

Unfortunately being on the list i can tell you them saying yes to donation saved his life.

Once donation has been granted it can take up ro 48 hours to harvest as tests etc has to be done. (The matching us done during harvest).

If rjey wouldn't have opted for donation they wpuld havw switched the switch then and he would be gone. Good Luck little boy keep going 😊

respectfully I disagree with your premise of because they wanted to donate his organs it saved his life.

I can find no evidence in the article that if hey had not agreed to donation they would have "pulled the plug" right away.

In fact I see no reason that the family (like alot have done) would not wait until all avenues have been exhausted and that all tests for viability had been done repeatedly.

even if the doctors said he was totally brain dead most families dont say "ok pull the plug now"

Overall most of the time if someone wants to choose to donate a loved ones organs the time between that and taking them is very small (depending on what caused the situation).

But trying to claim that donating organs will save the person who is donating them life?

NOT
