Yeah, but McCain's not dead yet. So it's perfectly fine for a living man to decide who he doesn't want to show up at his funeral. People put all kinds of crazy stuff in their wills too, which by your reasoning shouldn't matter since they'll be dead when it's time for the living to carry out those decisions anyway.

Or to put it another way, why is trump entitled to go to McCain's funeral? Also, if he wanted to mend the fences with McCain, he could try doing that right now while they're both still alive. But if he doesn't want to make peace with McCain, then it makes sense that he wouldn't be invited.

ETA: Just saw you added something. Ironically, Islamic funerals are typically very quick and to the point (as in, a matter of 1-3 days or sooner if possible). The goal is to bury the body as soon as possible after a specific cleansing ritual. We don't normally do that week long "keep the body on display for people to come by and view it" thing, either. So I actually agree with the idea of just getting it over with, and then them using the saved money on something that will help out in the world or even for my loved ones to use the saved money to celebrate putting up with me for this long.

However, there would literally be no place in that for my enemies. I wouldn't want them helping to clean my naked body, wouldn't want them there during the flurry of activity to get my loved ones in & out before it's time for the burial, and definitely wouldn't them to share in any festivities or post-burial "celebrations".

I don't think anyone much cares who McCain does or does not want at his funeral, but he seems to be setting the entire thing up as a political side-show . If that's how he wants to be remembered ... again, that's on him, but the Wellstone Memorial did the Democrats no favors when they turned a funeral into a political side-show. I don't expect this will do much better even if it's what McCain wants.
