US congressman proposes law, confiscating guns

I'd support a bill banning assault weapons as long as there is an added stipulation that it doesn't just cover the individual citizen, but bars local, state and federal law enforcement from possessing them as well.

There have been more fatal police shootings in the last year and a half (1,355) than people killed by a spree killer in a mass shooting event (1,081) since Charles Whitman climbed a clock tower way back in 1966. In fact, fatal police shootings are on pace to break the 1,000 mark for the fourth straight year. Now I know that not all of the victims of police shootings are entirely innocent, but even if you tally up the number of the completely unarmed individuals (not even including the murkier cases where it may be less clear on which party was in the wrong) dating back to the 60s I can ascertain from the recent data alone that it will still be comparable if not dwarf that of the victims of mass shootings.

I think that removing officers who fear for their safety would go a long way in addressing your second issue.

As for the government applying laws equally to itself, well, im afraid its the opposite of that usually. Which is really what gun control is all about.
The assault weapons ban it all about theatrics. Its politicians catagorizing guns and putting ones that have a reputation in pop culture on one side of the line, and the rest on the other side in order to ban one group of guns, "assualt weapons". In reality, an AR15 (on the scary assualt weapons side of the line) will do the exact same thing at the exact same rate with the exact same round as a mini 14 ( a gun with a traditional looking wood stock which puts it on the other side of the line)

Could this guy be saying these things publicly in order to cause extreme knee jerk reactions?

I just want to say... we don’t agree on much AT ALL lol... but it makes me feel good when we do.

Which goes for a lot of the polarizers of the aisle here.

Someone earlier in this thread mentioned it’s hard to get anything done when extremist bills are in place, I believe it’s more than a coincidence for most issues left or right. We had left and right congresses and POTUSs and no one has really came in the middle to negotiate. And on ATS it’s the same thing. “My side is better or more correct than yours.”

We need more (preferably less) legislation of letting people be.

Just in case you have not been paying attention, this is the same thing which is being done in those places where they call it "regime change".
You go into a country and find some point of contention between the government and the governed. Locate those people most willing to be lead against the leaders and give them money and arms.

Bang! You have effectively destroyed the whole of the country without firing a shot from the outside.

It will have to be done with a slight variation here though.
First they have to make sure the guns are in the hands of the right people before the real regime change can be started.

IMO, the socialists kicked-off a cold Civil War the second they decided to challenge the lawful and peaceful transition of power.

Question is, what can be done about it? I'm all for giving them California (minus our military bases/ports), walling off the entire state (and Mexican border) and letting them self destruct in their homeless/box city paradise. Maybe they really do enjoy the overflowing human feces on their streets, or constant crime. This is how their dumps would look without riding on the coat-tails of average hard-working Americans. I can't disagree with that because the proof of it is in plain site with the rise of Cultural Marxism in our colleges. Think back to the 60's when the hippy generation screamed bloody murder for their freedom of speech at our colleges. That was when cultural Marxism started. They used our 1st against us. Do our colleges support freedom of speech now??? Absolutely NOT. They have successfully thru out the years turned young impressionable minds against everything that gave them a nice safe cushy life compared to many others less fortunate.

You see it on ATS all the time. It isn't that they hate their government, (which I often do) they actually hate their own country and our hell bent to destroy it to get their way.

No, would become a self-defender to ensure our UNALIENABLE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS are never infringed upon.

Infringing on ANY Constitutional right for ANY reason signals a totalitarian tyranny - a condition we've historically refused to live under. Time and time again, patriots of this country have defeated tyranny and attempts to invade or otherwise obstruct our immovable and etched-in-stone Constitutional rights.

So to answer your question, yes, I believe patriots would defend the Constitution at any cost. And through historical precedent/DOI/BOR, they'd be absolutely justified.
