A peace treaty would make it more difficult to attack North Korea legally though.

The de-escalation of the situation would inevitably lead to economic potential, history shows that. I'm just musing on a website with my thoughts and opinions, I'm genuinely not expecting anything in regards to North Korea.

I once thought The People's Republic of China would have a serious demand for democracy by 2020, I know nothing.

I'm not even sure that would be a problem. Submarines and Aircraft Carriers would no doubt fill our national security needs. That DMZ seems more like a millstone around our necks than an asset.

A scenario like that I can understand. Could even see Kim running in it too.

I'm starting to think. The US unleashed a weapon.
It made little Kim realize hes in a no win scenario. Which is both good and bad. We obliterated his facility but exposes one of the Wests capabilty. Dont forget Trump UNsrhetorical speach.

well i certainly hope not, i see this as the beginning stage of a war with north korea, i honestly think peace isn't coming from this announcement since they already previously declared their nuclear program complete after that last icbm test.

it's already too late to stop global nuclear proliferation, it's only a matter of whose next after north korea.

Pompeo is Trump's agent. Isn't he? So don't worry, Our Glorious Leader will get the credit. Whether or not anything actually comes of this.

Don't you know?

This is more progress than at any time since the NK nuclear issue began.

Can't give credit where credit is due, can you?

No, nobody's getting any credit until ink is dry. North Korea has mastered the art of duplicity, come on you guys. I bet you 5 bucks and a box of donuts he doubles back on every promise as soon as he gets NK whatever he's aiming for, in their possession.

I'll buy a hat and eat it if that doesn't happen.

He'll get some credit. While Trump's trying to confront this NK nuke issue and very well might make the most progress on it we've ever seen, the Dems are busy suing Wikileaks and muuuuuuh Ruskia.

The goal for both sides has always been reunification.

Who knows what may be happening. Kim Jung Un has had a lot of senior government officials killed since taking power. Maybe this is just another step in an agenda only now being realized.

what this tells me that the 2017 setback at nk nuke testing site likely destroyed their program and that is likely what brought them to table remember star trek the undiscovered country ? the klingons smurfed up and had to sue for peace.

The United States is one out of 193 countries in the United Nations, and yet we pay 22 percent of the entire budget and more. In fact, we pay far more than anybody realises. The United States bears an unfair cost burden, but to be fair, if it could actually accomplish all of its stated goals, especially the goal of peace, this investment would easily be well worth it. Major portions of the world are in conflict, and some, in fact, are going to hell, but the powerful people in this room, under the guidance and auspices of the United Nations, can solve many of these vicious and complex problems. The American people hope that one day soon the United Nations can be a much more accountable and effective advocate for human dignity and freedom around the world.

Trump's U.N. speech transcript

Nothing's changed in regards to the U.N.

Scratching my head a bit atm, I wouldn't think the US would use weapons against the regime. I'm thinking about how you could make a nuclear weapon commit suicide. Or something along those lines.

Without good reason they would never disarm, nobody will. But we all must someday, it is just a matter of time...

Yes but under what circumstances. Surely not the kind that allows a brutal dictatorship the chance to thrive on the Korean peninsula. The regime would a an aggressive form of cancer, to put it bluntly.

I know I have no clue to what's happening, I can only hope it's peaceful in nature.

The one question I have regarding everything about the NK situation that in my opinion is the most important, is will their borders be opened. I don't mean for visitors to come in, but for North Koreans to leave on their own free will with no repercussions to them or their family.

#2 reintroduction of North Korea to international markets and the systematic easing of sanctions, backed by major world powers , mediated by neutral partners.
Haven't they always had that option? Isn't that the point of sanctions in the first place? Comply and the sanctions are lifted.

Why now? Something new was injected.

Why now?
My guess:

Because China god fed up.
And by China I mean Xi Jingping

I am sure you know how Jinping is positioning himself as a new Mao-Zedong-meets-Emperor-Huang. He is China. Or wants to be, anyway. In other words, he consider himself to be a rather big deal.

So when Kim Jong-Un last year had the audacity to both threaten and belittle The People's Republic of Xi Jingping (albeit in a domestic speech), he crossed a red line that is not very recommendable to cross.

I think this - the deal I hypothesize - is a perfect opportunity for Jingping to deal with both Trump and Kim at the same time. And that is what have changed.

I do believe something has happened behind the scenes that we won't learn about. At least not from official sources anyway. Or the world got together over Skype and told him that they would blow his country off the map. The collapse that happened a while back could have been a warning that more was to come unless he backed down.

Either way It's good to finally get a little good news from the region.

I wonder... will Trump get a Nobel Peace Prize for facilitating the end of the Korean War? Like how Obama got one just for being President.

Absolutely if this occurs, Trump should get it. Obamad was given to him before he actualky did anything at all.
