Maybe he was going to talk to the girl in person?

???? You think its appropriate for an adult man to talk to a 13 year old girl in person about the legitimacy of their relationship? What a strange argument.

He didn't enter illegally either, he was invited
by whom he thought was a 13 year old girl inviting him over so that he could sexually assault her.

Are you sure? You can assume that, but without knowing the messages exchanged between the two parties we can only assume. We could also reasonably assume that the parents weren't behaving rationally.

I dont need to assume anything ... an adult man was confronted while walking up the stairss to meet with a 13 year old girl ... that part was on video.

That is NOT OK in any stretch of the imagination. After performing such a disgusting act your lucky if you only get hog tide.

Hypothetically, what would have happened if the parents had not set it up as a FB Live sting and had instead acted surprised when the man walked into their home and then detained him? Does Canada allow a citizen's arrest for someone breaking and entering? What's the perp gonna say, 'Their 13 year old daughter invited me?'

I can only speak for the UK but it is a crime to solicit sex with a child so he could legally be detained by a citizen if there is evidence to support the accusation.

Sure but if the parents were acting oblivious to the situation, they'd need the cops to search his phone for texts to confirm his intent.

That's what they should have done. They could have started the live stream after he entered the home.

They could have said they read their daughters texts after the fact. They went to the police and they didnt help. So they sat vigilant hoping it wouldn't happened but prepared if it did.

In the UK the 'daughters' phone record is good enough for prosecution. The paedo hunters here do it regularly, post a fake profile on social media and wait for the paedos to flood in requesting sex. They screenshot the messages, agree to meet up after being asked then detain them as regular citizens can.

Seriously? Seriously.

Yea, seriously. Because way up there on your high horse you're missing one tiny little detail.

The part where the mother invited him over and then they let him in the house.

So in no way, shape, or form did he go over to a house and enter illegally. He was invited to a house and let in. That's exactly the opposite of what you're claiming happened.

Seriously! Seriously. Emphasis mine (seriously)

Repetition doesn't make one more correct. A favored tactic here on ATS, but still not a worthwhile one.

Got a high horse of your own? Get off it.

I don't, which is why I don't miss giant details.

Seriously.

Seriously.

That was fun, wasn't it? Seriously?

Here's one vid, the tragedy is that there are hundreds from the UK on youtube...

...to anyone who doesn't watch it to the end, the police arrive and the alleged paedo was arrested.

The problem is that it sounds like we don't have all of the story (as usual).

We don't know what the woman told the police, but by that "I've been waiting for six weeks for the police to give me a name behind the Instagram account" sounds like she went to the police to know the name of the man behind that Instagram account, something that, obviously, the police couldn't do.

Exactly, even for things like this there's a right and many wrong ways of doing it.

In this case they could have done it in a much better way: not inviting the possible predator to their home, not getting another man to help capture him, not broadcasting it on Facebook (the woman even shows her face on the video, without thinking that now predators know that she has a daughter, making it easier to find who the girl is), etc.

That's another thing missing in this story: who opened the door? Was the door left open for him to enter? Did the woman opened the door? The article says that the probable predator was attacked when we was going to the girl's room, but how did he know where the room was?

Too much missing information.

Agreed. Most paedo hunters here in the UK play it by the law and have a brilliant success rate of convictions.
With the OP though it was her own child so it changes things. I can only imagine what I would do, but I know if something like that happened to a mate and their child I'd for sure help them clean a situation up.

That's another problem, people stop thinking rationally when it's about them.

Being consistent is difficult.

That's where your mates come in, to remind you of relevant law and then help out if you break it and decide you don't wanna go to jail.
The 'sting' in the OP would have been carried out massively different if it had been in my social circles.

EDIT
One of my longest most trusted mates is hard as #, teaches a martial art, has done for a couple of decades. But he's a bloke like anyone else and can get cross and irrational as we all can. That's where your mates help you out, I'm one of the few who can get in the middle of him and and some argument and chill it out...and it's always ever been because the guy being a prick to my mate needed protection from himself.
I'd help him clean up any situation...mates is family, I'm like an uncle to his now adult kids...I'd stop him getting himself in jail for impulse decisions.

If a person is responding towhat they think is an underage person...then it matters not who did the inviting. They were there to put their penis is some childs orifices. Anyone who disagrees is a pedo and supports pedos. This is a crime with ZERO gray area.

Agreed.
In the UK it would be a crime soliciting a child for sex through digital means. A citizen can detain and hold until the cops arrive here.

I would detain and hang them from their sack.

Their is not a punishment too cruel for a pedo.
