Greetings, fellow ATSrs. My office is just across the Potomac from Washington DC. Should the situation with Russia turn dire over the next 72 hours, I'll have a front row seat to the Apocalypse.

So until this situation fizzles out, or blows up in our faces in the most spectacular way, I will keep you all updated on what I observe.

Currently, it is safe to say that most people around here have their heads in the sand about what's going on. They don't seem to realize that when Russia says "we will shoot down anything that flies and then blow up whatever sent it" that things are getting suddenly very serious. I will be interested to see how local attitudes change if and when the situation escalates in the coming days.

Don't worry I will know if DC is gone because I should be able to see the mushroom cloud from my house

. In that case I probably won't hear an update from you and I'm sorry.

Two thoughts on this.

1. How does it feel to be at work during the dawn of the apocalypse?

2. If DC were to 'vanish,' would it be so bad???

Keep an eye on the Russian embassy and to other ATS'ers keep an eye on any Russian consulates in your area. If a war, god forbid, is coming the Russians will start destroying documents etc at their embassy / consulates.

Watch for smoke from the chimneys. Keep an eye on russian nationals to see if they are being told to leave the US.

That should be an indicator.

Indeed.

Have a few friends in surrounding DC so it's not optimal personally however.

These are not bad ideas. Unfortunately the only embassy I can see across the water is the Ukrainian. However, there is a Russian four desks down from where I am. I just checked and yeah he didn't come in today.

1. It has its pluses and minuses.

2. I wouldn't be around to know should that happen, so you will have to seek comment on that from elsewhere.

Might I suggest having an updated post ready, and mouse hovering on the send button as soon as the headlines/events start happening?

You will have a short amount of time once missiles are launched to get the post out, and maybe even have enough time to get to a hardened or sheltered area to avoid the initial blast (like a basement).

That is, of course, should nukes be launched.

As far as everything else, who knows.

I doubt a response from Russia would involve a retaliation on the scale of launching nukes.

For the most part, it should look business as usual from your vantage point. Most people don't react to things unless it is in their face like buildings exploding and shots being fired in their general vicinity.

I fear your in for a boring few days, except for perhaps news headlines.

We will see.

If the ICBMs do launch, I should have a 31 minute window to get a pretty good post uploaded.

Well I guess if worst comes to worst we won't have to deal with the strep and double ear infections going on in our house right now.

On the other hand, damn I wanted to be healthy for the end of the world.

Keep an eye on US military movement, especially the navy.

On the flip side this entire issues seems very out of place. I say this because of European response to what Trump is doing. I get the impression many EU leaders dont care for Trump but in this case some are extremely supportive.

Not in DC unless the hunter killer subs are on the Ruskies. SLBMs would hit you within 2 minutes.

Glad to see you're completely spineless and maintain zero faith of our military, which I've served in for 23 years. You must have French DNA... So glad you're in charge of Jack and Squat! Leave the real work to the adults, we'll defend and protect those who can't protect themselves. Enjoy your Cheetos and Box Wine.
