Songs of Sadness

It's a sad song that pulls you along

I consider this song a type of dirge, despite its seemingly spry and upbeat calypso rhythms.

The lyrics tell of the downtrodden dockworkers on the graveyard shift. It is a story of destitution and despair, with more bad news around every corner (the hidden deadly tarantula.)



I am attracted to songs of sadness. They remind me that others too feel pain and distress; even in a world that appears joyful and care-free on the surface.

When you've got the time, about an hour of solitude, you can't go past the genius of one Mr Henryk Gorecki who is, in recent years, no longer with us.


His Symphony no 3 - also known as Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, is a wonder. A torturous, beautiful, wonder.

This one is like getting slapped in the face with a big 'ol sad pork-chop.

I pretty much cried the first time I heard this song a few years ago. It struck really deep when the transformation in the song happens, feels like it's coming back to life almost. Really beautiful.

The bluesiest of the blue.
