Why else would you employ a force that is trained to shoot first and ask questions later? The National Guard and Border Patrol can handle a group of 1500. The only reason to deploy the military is if you want them to shoot anyone that crosses the border.

They do have a say in our economic well-being however. Economic sanctions wrecked Russia's economy and they can do the same to us.

We don't kill people by the thousands or millions and don't send people to death/work camps for breaking an obscure law. The United States isn't like North Korea or China or Iran or Iraq.

Yeah, I knew someone was going to defer the Starship Troopers comment to a right wing mantra reply. For your information the 82nd Airborne is the primary rapid deployment force in the USA tasked with being able to deploy to anywhere on the face of the earth within 24 hours.


You clearly missed the point I was trying to make and haven't seen troops in action before mobilizing en mass. How you linked it to a right wing idea is beyond me.

Neither of those conditions have been met. Nobody is being deprived of their rights, privileges, immunities, or protections. And no one is obstructing the execution of the law. People in the states most affected by illegal immigration are still operating as any other US citizen and the courts are still running.

We all can't have the perfect ideal person for POTUS. I hope there is some credit behind this statement other than fluff. I am prepared to be disappointed if/when this becomes nothing more than posturing.

Been a while since I read the book, but the movie is very much a satire on militarism. I don't know if Verhoeven ever actually confirmed it, but it's the running consensus with most film critics. Also, when you consider his most famous film, Robocop, it's clear that he has a penchant for hiding some very Left WIng positions behind mindless action movies.
