The sound of Silence
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs, and voices never shared,
and no one dared disturb the sound of silence.

People here are disturbing
They really think they are
Encouraging....
All of us to believe in what they say...
I say Nay...
I'd rather listen to the sound.... Of Silence...

Everyone acted so dense
When I stated my defense...
They said that I was lying
That no one could possibly
Sing like me...
It was like the sound of Silence...

Then this lightnened force evolved
So fast it lit up all my Songs
And everyone listening cheered me on
They laughed and smiled like they were
on the bong

Then I smiled and returned back to the sound of Silence...
Silence...

Sadly, the Disturbed cover is pants.

The original wins over this strained attempt, complete with constipated facial expressions.

I know the sound of Silence cover divided opinion but I thought it a powerful and passionate version of the song , however this remains my favourite Disturbed track.

Oh, ah, ah, ah, ah.

IMHO, I would rather hang 1000 hammers from the ceiling at head level, put on a blindfold and run around in circles listening to the sounds of my skull deteriorating than listen to Disturbed.

Silence like a cancer grows

I could never get on board with the video although the song was done well, IMO.
Disturbed was one of those bands to listen to when one needed to 'get the lead out'.
Same with the song break stuff, not a 100 % fan of the band but screaming the lyrics while driving home can help some.

My friend used to flog down with the sickness like a dead horse so you'll understand why i'm yelling at the screen right now.

And what drives me nuts is these so called experts call this 'Nu-metal' which translates to 'poser rock' in English. There is no Nu-metal, this is metal.

Some of the replies here just:

..me.

Love their version of Silence. I've always liked this band.

I agree , Nu-metal has been a thing for a couple of decades so the original "Nu-metal" is now old metal ,there are genres of music but any subdivision is just nonsense , in my opinion people who label music don't really understand music.

Labeling music is not easy. Some could make a case for this being metal:

This is NOT a metal band. Some metal bands lighten it up sometimes:

Even my country lovin wife can tolerate this one.

Is Sabbath metal?

Or did it take off in the 80's?

BTW I liked that Metallica kicked Dave out. We got 2 excellent bands.

YMMV as it's difficult to gauge.

Sabbath are the original metal band , I'm sure there's a story of a music journalist or some sort describing one of their early albums as sounding like a tonne of metal crashing to the floor.

I'm not much of a fan of Disturbed, or more accurately, nu-metal, but their cover of Sound of Silence is pretty damn good. It's on equal footing with Simon & Garfunkel, no bones about it. I think the only cover out there that towers over S & G is the Gregorian cover. That has a certain profound ethereal depth to it they couldn't capture.

Let's not get into a what is metal debate please guys. It's all metal and it's all valid. We are above that stupid sh*t.

I like all the of the bands in this thread and listen to Megadeth more than the others but lately I've been into -

Kamelot (new record soon!)
Dimmu Borgir (new record soon!)
Judas Priest - Fiiiiiirreeeeeepaaaahhhhwwweeerrrr
Antti Martikainen - Adventure Epic Metal Music Stuff (check him on Youtube)

Babymetal - Super catchy awesome stuff.

Enya - Dark Sky Island (Listened to it a lot while on holiday in Thailand recently)

Also been feeling outlawish recently -

Johnny Cash (metal as hell)
Charlie Daniels
