By making felons out of law abiding citizens with ridiculous laws that criminals will ignore.

That doesn't make much sense.

Ridiculous laws can be changed, if the people are vigilant enough to hold our leaders accountable.

That is not to be compared to an actual war with real casualties, as you suggested in your post, which is not going to happen.

That's nothing more than doom porn created by the paranoid.

Yeah, history shows a different reality.

They're a waste of money. A shoelace tied into a loop will work just as well for a tiny fraction of the cost of a commercial bump stock.

No. History shows what has happened in the past. That does not mean it will happen again.

There is no reason to think the US government will go to all-out war with it's citizens, unless you wan to push fear and ignorance.

Well, this is ATS. So that would be normal.

So in your view, because it has happened, doesn't mean you should think or care about it happening again, because that would be fear and ignorance.

Thank you for sharing your value system here. It helps in understanding why America has so many problems that aren't going away any time soon.

Many of your fellow countrymen brushed Hitler off as someone who could be controlled by his fellow politicians. Some even seemed to like him.

History provides wise counsel.

The fact is that throughout history there are govts. that have persecuted and killed their people. What is really nonsensical is pretending it could never happen to the US.

No. That is not what I said.

I do not think it will happen for many reasons. To say the things you have serves no purpose other than to spread fear and ignorance.

Amazing! You learned everything about my "value system" from one post?

I would say it is people such as yourself that are a bigger threat than the government. I fear ignorance such as yours more than I do the government.

Americans would never need to defend themselves because the military would

Never
Attack
Civilians

Why there is zero history of such a thing in the past 100 years of such a thing.

What you're saying is the only real solution would be to ban all semi-auto weapons outright and any lesser remedies are just token offerings that'll make no real difference at all?

As soon as we ban :
cell phones [ 11 teens A DAY die while texting and driving but nobody wants to talk about that do they?
"BUT, BUT.. GUNS!!!" ]
cigarettes [ 480,000 deaths and while we're at it, let's talk about all the teens who dip or chew ]
alcohol [ 88,000 deaths a year directly related to alcoholism - over 10,000 to drunk drivers ] ]

I mean we're talking about saving lives and that's a massive amount of people dying, so which of those would you like to start with?

Just my observation, but the primary victims of those things you mention are the users (misusers and abusers is more accurate). Also those things were never intended as weapons specifically designed to end lives as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The government is not going to make war against the people of this country

They already have, but not with guns. Massive immigration and changing America into a corporatocracy has impoverished millions of people and destroyed our culture and quality of life.

I keep seeing people bring this up, and I've yet to see anyone present a logical explanation about what the point of this observation is. Are those deaths supposed to be okay because they weren't killed by something that's designed to kill? Are the family and friends of the victims feeling less grief? Can you imagine people hugging at the funeral saying "At least Johnny wasn't killed by a gun. I'll manage without him."?

I would love to live in a society where assault weapons didn't exist. But with all the hubbub about taking these kind of "war zone" like weapons away from the individual, one has to wonder if the police forces across the country and the many domestic based agencies will demilitarize as well. Something tells me they won't. Why is no one speaking out about that?

Oh, they are. Black Lives Matter and many other organizations and individuals referred to on ATS as "snowflakes" are indeed speaking out about it and trying political action. As a member of the Liberal Snowflake Bunch, I'm probably more aware of it than you are.
