President Donald Trump has pardoned a Navy submariner sentenced to prison for taking photos inside the classified engine room of a nuclear submarine, the White House announced on Friday.

Petty Officer First Class Kristian Saucier pleaded guilty in May 2016 to two felony counts, one for unlawful retention of national defense information and another for obstruction of justice, for taking cellphone pictures inside the Navy vessel and later destroying his own equipment upon learning he was under investigation.

Court filings say he initially denied he took the pictures. Prosecutors say he later smashed his laptop, camera and memory card and threw them in the woods.

On top of that, Saucier had a handgun not registered to him in his home, prosecutors allege. After the FBI and NCIS showed up to question him, he allegedly cleaned it with bleach and stashed it under the dishwasher.

Didn't see this on ATS yet?

His second pardon of his Presidency.

I remember this one. Great news. We have a pretty kick ass president.

The guy wanted to show his kids a picture of himself on a sub in 20 years when its all declassified.

He didnt take crazy revealing pictures. He was sitting at a station and over 90% of the pictures were entirely of himself. The rest didnt really reveal instrumentation or anything.

It was really over blown. Its good he got off.

Here you go, the redacted photos.

Now compare this to Clinton's top secret emails that were hacked and got Iranian nuclear technician Shahram Amiri killed.
Or her sale of US Uranium to Russia!
Or Obamas $1,300,000,000.00 cash pallets to Muslim terrorist nation Iran!!!

Or Obama's pardoning to 273 federal inmates, including Chelsea Manning, the army intelligence analyst who was convicted in 2013 of disclosing sensitive information to WikiLeaks.
Or Bill's pardoning of of 16 members of FALN, a group that wanted independence for Puerto Rico and claimed responsibility for more than 100 bombs in the United States. fivethirtyeight.com...

Thank you President Trump for pardoning this man.

A few things.

One argument is that it was not unheard of for sailors to sneak pics of the Nuclear Engine room and when caught they would get a demotion in rank, but nothing too serious, so a year in prison seemed unusual.

On the other hand, he denied it and destroyed his camera, his phone and his laptop? Seems an over-reaction for getting caught taking hobby pics? Plus the unregistered gun cleaned with bleach and hidden beneath his dishwasher?

And why were the pics on his PC..why three devices? Camera, PC and Phone?

Why did they choose to prosecute him in civilian court vs. Court Marshall? The common wisdom is that you prosecute suspected military spies in civilian court because there is potential you will be charging civilians along with the initial accused military member.

Otherwise, it looks like this was something they treated and suspected to be Espionage vs. hobby pics.

Other thoughts? It was a right wing rhetorical tool to bitch about HRC and Fox News interviewed him after his Lawyer admitted he set up the interview to get the Presidents attention and it worked.

That doesn't make sense to me either. If you think Clinton guilty of jeopardizing classified information, then shouldn't you definitely think someone that took Classified Pictures of a Nuclear Subs Engine room and then lied about it and smashed all the evidence is guilty?

It is a strange Pardon IMO.

I read this earlier today, its excellent news. When you consider Chelsea Manning's commutation as well as the above mentioned Clinton business as usual...this poor schlep got the shaft. He served time, at least now he may be able to get a reasonable job if he doesnt have one yet.

Real life compared to BS?

Why?

I thought it was crazy when he was charged. A picture might give an engineering expert a clue but without a more in-depth examination I don't think folks would be able to run out and build one.

If they are concerned about state actors seeing something, that ship has sailed already with all the successful hacking of contractors and DOD.

Everything I have read and seen appeared the opposite of what you described.

He exactly took pictures of instrumentation and none of the declassified evidence pictures included him?

From what I read his pictures revealed the capabilities of the Sub, including speed amongst other things.

I honestly didnt see all those pictures posted here until now. It doesnt really change my mind, though I now understand better WHY he was put through the ringer.

He shouldnt go to prison or have his name ruined because of it.

No worries. I didn't expect facts to change your opinion, but thank for at least admitting the last post was BS.
