Trump is almost assuredly the only president in our history to achieve such a feat, but he has. He has lost money as president.Trump slid 222 spots on the Forbes billionaire list. He lost 400 million dollars last year. That's a lot of money, for perspective, if rich old mitt romney lost that much he'd be in debt 150 million. Maybe he could get lucky and play the futures market and turn a couple million into a billion. Worked for the clintons.

3. Warren Buffett, $84 billion

It turned out that Mr. Buffett, with immense income from dividends and capital gains, paid far, far less as a fraction of his income than the secretaries or the clerks or anyone else in his office. Further, in conversation it came up that Mr. Buffett doesn’t use any tax planning at all. He just pays as the Internal Revenue Code requires. “How can this be fair?” he asked of how little he pays relative to his employees. “How can this be right?”

Even though I agreed with him, I warned that whenever someone tried to raise the issue, he or she was accused of fomenting class warfare.

“There’s class warfare, all right,” Mr. Buffett said, “but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.”

Guess what?

Wait! I'm drifting, what's the topic again?

There's lotta love from No. 766, all right. And just 100 spots to go for the numerological luz, go go go!

He can always donate to the treasury if he'd like to pay more.

In this century?

ETA:
Looking it up they tended to be great presidents.
Ulysses Grant
Abraham Lincoln
Thomas Jefferson
William McKinley
Harry Truman
William Harrison

Only Truman was president in the last 100 years and he went broke because he didn't believe in bankruptcy.... how can you not believe in the law and be president?

Hmm...

Right. How much did No. 766 donate out of sheer "love for the country" then?

His entire salary minus four cents (or maybe it was $4) for the last year. He was legally obligated to keep the four cents (or dollars).

ETA: But that's a non-sequitur as trump isn't the one complaining he doesn't pay enough taxes.

The reason he is president was to claim the title. Narcissists are like that. That is why he was and still is pro Russia.

How in the world does being a narcissist make him pro Russia?

Or... maybe he took the job because he actually wanted to help the country, as he said. Maybe he has enough money, and now it is more about making a difference with his life in a way that will make the country better.

Of course Trump is not making money right now. He had to stop doing business in his usual ways, and remove himself from managing his businesses. Opponents insisted on this, and now you all are mocking him for doing so?

Most politicians today get rich while 'serving'. I prefer one that goes broke as there is no question as to who he is serving.

"Forbes, which has tracked Trump since the list's debut in 1982, said the president's faltering net worth is due to weakening in the New York City real estate market.

Trump did not campaign with the magazine in an effort to boost his ranking as he's done in years past, said Luisa Kroll, Forbes magazine senior wealth editor."
www.cnbc.com...

"Political groups and special interest groups held events at properties owned by President Donald Trump more than 40 times since his inauguration, spending an unprecedented $1.2 million at his properties, according to a new study by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

Before Trump got involved with politics, annual spending by political committees at Trump properties never exceeded $100,000 in a single year, since at least 2002. But his reelection efforts are already well underway, and since assuming office, the campaign has spent more than half a million dollars at Trump hotels and Mar-a-Lago, reported CREW, a nonprofit legal group. The Trump Organization owns hotels, apartment buildings and golf courses in the United States."

Just because his industry is slipping doesn't mean he isn't profiting directly from the presidency.

So what? It's his money. It would be worse if he squandered and wasted people's money like a certain Obama, who will go into history as the president who spent the most money ever.
Maybe Trump thinks it's worth it if he can do something for America.

That is highly unlikely. He has signed a tax bill and appointed conservative judges. That has accomplished everything the Republican Party wanted. If he loved the country he would resign now to spare us the spectacle of impeachment.

Maybe he has enough money, and now it is more about making a difference with his life in a way that will make the country better.

There is never "enough money" for a man like Trump. If he wanted to make a difference, he has had sixty years to dedicate his money to charities. His "foundation" is just a tax scam.

Of course Trump is not making money right now

What makes you think he's not making money now?I'm sure that all the foreign dignitaries stay at the Trump Post Office Hotel when in DC, and we will probably soon hear that certain cabinet secretaries made large donations to "charities" based in the British Virgin Islands. Forbes dropped him down the list because he has had a few capital losses due to business partners dissolving the relationship, as in Canada, or the Trump organization dropping the relationship because the media found out his partners were gangster, as with the Trump Soho.

He had to stop doing business in his usual ways,

(Criminally.)

and remove himself from managing his businesses.

The people running his businesses are doing it out of the White House. You did know that, right?

Opponents insisted on this, and now you all are mocking him for doing so?

Opponents? You mean the law against conflicts of interest?

No. Trump has already spent as much as Obama did over his eight years. He flies to Florida every week-end the Secret Service has to go with him to an extremely "soft target."

If that's a line of logic for being narcissistic....

Bush Jr., Obama, and Hillary were all pro Russia and hence, narcissistic.

I won't argue on the end conclusion, but I'm lost on the line of thinking.
