my favourite words of a soldier;

The Soldier
Rupert Brooke, 1887 - 1915

"If I should die, think only this of me:
That there’s some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England’s, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.

And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven."

inspiring words borne of a terrible time. this awful earth can still produce beautiful things.

Yes but why are the things you mentioned what the soldier was referring to.

Perhaps the soldier was upset with racial equality and gay marriage.

The message seemed to refer the life sacrificed and to how it seems to be. Being Gay and Racial Equality being the smaller issues on the scale of a Soldier fighting to eradicate a fascist world dictator 53+ years ago... but then Hitlers answer to racial equality was the gas chamber, so yes racial equality could be one of the reason of which I believe the message was meant but as a broad stroke to the whole spectrum of current modern day issues. Like I said I'm merely passing it on.

You're not merely passing it on, you are assuming the reasoning of this soldier.
This soldier could be upset with the state of the world for many reasons.

Why do you assume this soldier agrees with you?

The American soldier closest to the door (he was holding a Thompson) turned to me to give everyone his message and the hope is that everyone spreads this far and wide, especially to your leaders.

"IT'S A DISGRACE, A SHAME TO WHAT WE DID"... "THIS IS NOT WHAT WE DIED FOR."

No offense but seems like he said that after looking or listening to you. Maybe it was the way you dress or maybe your hairdo.

Maybe that old man judged the book by its cover. Again, I'm not trying to offend you.

How intelligent... something I expect from ATS 2018 sadly.

What's the difference between ATS 2017 and ATS 2018 ?

I state again, for your own conscience... their not my relatives who's message I have been given... If you belittle it you are simply dishonoring the fallen..

I am doing no such thing, but you are talking bollocks. You don't receive messages from soldiers.

You think you do, but you don't.

Shouldn't that apply to WW1 as well as other wars but the reason I mention world war 1 is that before that #ty war the world was really going through a golden time be it employment offices, women's right's, sport, art, culture, music, film and style.

The only thing good was the rocket scientists. The rest should've been shot by Soviets in the Gulag.

Hello ATS,
This is the second time I wrote this thread as the first time I added to it and for some reason the thread backspaced to the menu page, so this time I will not add my own thoughts and will pass on the message as given and the scenario therein.

I was stood in a battle-torn building facing a door, bodies of the fallen and flags lay outside the door broken and burning. Either side of the door were a lot of soldiers, Americans, British, Russian too many to discern... ALL soldiers from the war.

As I said I cannot put my own thought into it, this is their message to the people today.

Well....

Go back in there and ask him, what exactly he mean by disgrace.

Also, ask him what have they done. Did they rape, plunder and murder innocent civilians? Did they died commiting atrocities?

If he hope his message to spread wide, he must make sure his message is clear, or else NOBODY will take his message seriously.

Damn dead people always come up with vague messages.
