Trump likes the idea of a president for life.

Bush 'joked' about being "dictator" as well. And he set in motion a array of executive orders, bills, and so on that end rinsed the office of POTUS towards those ends. Then Obama came and ran all the same sorts of actions to help solidify all that. Then Trump inherited all of the above....

Of course they were both puppets to the Corruption that has effective control over 'our' government via its 'left hand' (known as the "Democrat Party"), and it's 'right hand' (known as the "Republican Party"). This scheme, that power system, perhaps best called the Corporatocracy, is a true albeit de facto dictatorship not unlike the ruling Communist Party in China. Oh sure we can wrench at certain parts of the system, it's endless laws, and it sure seems more kind than China's literal dictatorship, hell we've got more in prison here than China despite only having a quarter of their population.

You see there can exist a dictatorship without having a 'proper' dictator. The dictator archetype tends to involve lifetime office, of course. Without lifetime office, humans sure do seem apt to accept a dictatorship as not being such. To set that term in motion is to rub it in ones face. Then again humans sure do prove to be content with such.

Argh.

I think it's great that Donald Trump says what he feels. He doesn't hide anything, he just gets it out there. I don't think having a president for life is a good thing. That's why it was changed all those years back.
Life is about change.

The left is incredibly easy to troll given they take every statement literally and can't parse between a serious statement and a tongue and cheek statement.

Hah, so true! I saw this thread and thought "surely people did not take that as a serious remark?". But sadly, yes, people are still gullible.

False dichotomy.

C) Realize that the president is a true jackass who is unfit for the office and should not be re-elected.

He's getting on a bit now, is over weight and doesn't look healthy.

President for life probably wouldn't mean a very long term for him.

Well, he "announced" but would you be surprised if he bails before 2020?

Sure, like he bailed after winning the first time, right?

Do you think that we should just have one guy run everything until he dies?

Yes he is, and also he had Russian help, and some on ATS still believe and spread the fake propaganda stories Russia put out, against Hillary. If I believed what they do, I would have voted for trump too. I researched the stories like Uranium One, and Millions of illegals voted in 2016, both are false. Uranium one looked fishy, but nothing was found in the investigation.

We should not allow more than two terms for a President. That could become a dictator ship. Stupid Idea trump!

How would you fix the trade imbalance we have with most countries . all I hear is talk for the last 20 years , no results . It is hard enough to compete in the global markets, an even playing field would be a good thing . I also think the auto unions and other trade organizations would love it if someone did something about the situation we have now .

It's not term limits that are the problem. Our country is divided. Unless both sides can come together to form one vision, we'll just take 3 steps forward and 3 steps back.

....................... was he just joking?

I'll put it this way, had anybody else said that, you'd know they were joking.
For me personally, WTF would want (want being the operative word) a cretin like that as a President for life....he's so full of it!

So is my 403b and 401k.

I wonder how the Trump trade war might affect that.

While my withholding has indeed "given" me about $1600 for the year, I'm not sure it will cover my tax bill. I'll have to consult the new W4 calculator soon to make sure. I expect that I'll have to reduce my exemptions a notch, actually, to avoid under-withholding.

Won't your state taxes shoot up too in the near future, I could be wrong, but Trumps infrastructure idea is that states would pay a share of it, while many states have said that they are standing still in maintaining what infrastructure they presently have. It seems, whatever way you cut it, people will need to pay a deal more in $ to get what is needed regardless.

I nearly forgot about the needs for rebuilding the infrastructure...how will that tie in with the latest, "Buy American" along with tariffs just announced on foreign goods AKA raw materials.

403B?

My dollar says that your employer pays the vast majority of your healthcare premiums and most likely out of the pockets of taxpayers.
