For me, regardless of what I believe...it seems that if half the nation believes abortion is murdering babies, then there should actually be some discussion taking place.

I do know that there is little in the way of logic in the way we handle that stuff. Like fathers being seen as ATM's by the court in the whole affair.

Huge arguments on when the fetus actually has a conscience. Whether it's at conception or birth or part way through the pregnancy.
Ill trust science at this point and assume consciousness sometime in the second trimester.

Discussion is fine, but let’s discuss the reality of life. The reality is, people screw up sometimes. It’s just the nature of people. Sometimes, people who shouldn’t be having children, get themselves in a predicament. What to do about that?

Abortion sucks. So does forcing someone to have a child that they have no business having, just because they screwed up.

There is a valid reason for that...

In “civilised” society we pride ourselves on the sentiment that someone’s Rights end where another’s begin...
The foetus relies on the mother to be sustained and survive 100%...
So it makes sense the foetus’ Rights end before the Right to bodily autonomy of the actual host’s of the vessel it carries.

as someone who prefers to trust in science, i can't help but be bothered by the fact that science isn't absolute, and is constantly refining itself based on new observations.

If it turns out that science says a fetus is "human life" at conception...there is an incredible amount of karma weighing on humanity.

Being someone who prefers to err on the side of caution, im not very comfortable with this.

But this is an argument I grow weary of.

For me, the pleas to emotion I have heard over guns falls flat once abortion is brought up.

Sorry to interject, but if a human cannot remember the sperm journey, the womb journey and then usually the first 2-3 years of life before memories begin to even store, how can this debate ever be based upon consciousness?

Because consciousness is the arbitrary hurdle that is used.

Its more that its just a word being used as a proxy for a concept lacking a word: the moment when life begins. We don't know how to define it because we don't know when it actually is yet.

Although conservatively one could say its obviously the moment that the zygote forms the first set of DNA.
