Florida sheriff refuses to resign during heated CNN interview

In a blistering battle with CNN host Jake Tapper on Sunday, Broward County’s sheriff refused to step aside in the wake of his department’s bungled handling of the Florida school massacre — even insisting at one point that he has provided “amazing leadership.”

But wait, there is something in here that may or may not be something.

Tapper said Israel’s office listed 23 incidents involving Cruz and asked why nothing was done to keep a gun out of his hands, secure the school or keep an eye on him. “On 16 of those cases, our deputies did everything right. Our deputies have done amazing things. … In five years, we’ve taken the Broward Sheriff’s Department to new levels,” he said.

Bolded to highlight this. If the Schools was fudging numbers, to get grant money, and the School board was in on it, just how far might the number fudging go? Could the Sherrif's office be only reporting the crimes he wants to, thus making it look like "In five years, we’ve taken the Broward Sheriff’s Department to new levels,” he said.

Maybe not and I have zero proof, only suspicion after the way this thing is unfolding.

And again, relax the knee, I don't have any proof, speculating is all.

This guy.... you can't trust any of these police officers and they wonder why

I'm surprised.

I assumed that leftists and CNN would side with the sheriff.


I guess I was wrong.

Wow I am also truely shocked CNN would go against the sheriffs claims.

Wonder why they decided to do this...

What is interesting and I am surprised really hasn't picked up much steam in the press is that the Broward School Board had purposely been avoiding arresting / prosecuting troubled teens under some type of politically correct doctrine.

Most may not remember or did much research, but Trayvon Martin's previous crimes were covered up by Broward County schools. He was in school in Broward County too. He had been caught burglarizing and it was never reported to the police. Remember, the only reason he was where he was the night of the shooting at George Zimmerman's neighborhood, was that he had been expelled from school and kicked out of his mother's house to go live with his father.

It is relevant because it appears the same MO was used with Cruz where Broward County avoids actually prosecuting and arresting a student out of political correctness.

In other words, the Sheriff's department's mistakes weren't actually mistakes, but school board policy!

He is clearly dirty I hope full investigation is carried out. Also, I saw that interview with the teachER who clearly thought she saw someone in police tactical gear shooting. Hmmmmmm

And then there is the fact that the BSO would not enter and would not let anyone else. Clearly they were told not to- completely goes against accepted active shooter response practice.

I am beginning to wonder Cruz is actually the shooter or if he is a scared kid being manipulated. Easy to do with a friendless loner orphan.

Some sort of misguided operation to gun grab and attempt to flip the script by midterms?

It looks really bad that CNN put this guy up on stage to grandstand like they did and like he and now all of this stuff about how his department acted (or rather didn't) is coming out.

I am guessing we are starting to see the mad scramble to save face.

Well if he doesn't quit he's going to have to face 'something' in the future.

Florida just had record attendance at a gun show.

Guess they didn't buy their town hall snip show.

And yet those on the right would have us believe that arming teachers would stop the threat...when a trained law officer sat outside and did nothing to directly end the live shooter situation.... And another 3 armed law officers also did not enter the building.

And arming teachers will do what exactly? More guns will do what exactly?

I mean, this is the same county where Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the congresswomen... Is there any real surprise this incident happened here? Sheriff Israel is also a BIG fan of Hillary and Co.. many photos of it over the internet..

Also, I hate CNN 98% of the time, but I give Jake Tapper props for this interview.. I just wish he posed these questions to him at the Town Hall...

At least two teachers died because they attempted to protect kids using their own bodies as human shields. At least one student died attempting to escort his fellow students to safety (ROTC, btw).

Are you suggesting that by arming any of those three who were running into danger and attempting to do something to protect others, that they would have magically cowered in fear like the 4 deputies because ... gun?

So are you saying that the teachers that put themselves in harm's way without weapons wouldn't have acted. Being a part of a situation and being apart from the situation are 2 different things, those with responsibility and weaponry to act didn't and others did.

I wanted to add, due to the hysteria around NRA and this shooting, I joined up with the NRA yesterday. I paid my dues, and waiting on my welcome packet.. Also, waiting on my gift of the awesome pocket knife i selected... Side note- I don't own a gun, I've never fired a gun, but due to all this pushback, I'm going to be grabbing a firearm next couple weeks when I get back into the coutnry (traveling abroad right now)...

They want to disarm us, and then they want us to count on coward deputy's like in Broward county to protect us?? Yea, no EFFFFFING way...

I'm curious how many others like me recently signed up for the NRA?

They have to blame him and his incompetence. They have to find a scapegoat because they need to cover up the real story of fudging numbers and not arresting criminals in order to get federal money. Lower crime rates got them more federal money. Except the crime rate wasn't really lower. They were just ignoring criminal activity in order to improve their statistics.

It's interesting watching the liberal media walk the tightrope, between their hatred of guns on one side, and their affinity for an elected Democrat in law enforcement, on the other. They're really torn over how hard to come down on Sheriff Israel.. Particularly CNN, as he was a featured star on their Anti-Gun town hall last week.

Cruz ran up to the third floor, dumped his gear/weapon/ammo and then ran back down the stairwell to exit the building with the rest of the students. That's the last I heard.
