So it seems the story of the Florida school shooter being a white nationalist militiaman has been debunked, or anyway withdrawn. Allegedly, it was all a “prank,” an act of misdirection by alt-right trolls. (Exactly what sort of “prank” it was, escapes me. Normally, a prank is meant to give the prankster the upper hand. Call me old-fashioned, but drawing to yourself the attention of law enforcement for suspected terror activity isn’t the smartest way to “own the libs.”)

Well, fair enough. What was interesting about the potential link between Nikolas Cruz and the fascist militia was not what fascism “revealed” about Nikolas Cruz’s crime. It’s what Nikolas Cruz’s crime reveals about fascism. Whether or not he was really a member of some white nationalist militia, he certainly fit the bill: alienated, disturbed, resentful young man; filled with racist sentiment and fantasies of racial violence; obsessed with nationalist and militarist and other right-wing tropes. In other words, the sort of guy whom fascists would recruit. Historical Fascism worked by directing the energy and anger of such men (in the interwar period, mostly demobilized and resentful veterans) toward a Cause, and more, it gave them an enemy, a concrete enemy to organize against—the organized, militant, socialist left. It goes without saying that those conditions don’t exist today. So you’re not often going to see contemporary fascists engaged in organized direct action, or paramilitary combat; you’re not going to see the parties of capital give the fascists institutional support. Instead, all that incipient fascism will just churn out your basement-dwelling troll, your tiki torch frat reject, your occasional school shooter.

It’s no surprise that the Florida school shooter was a member of a white nationalist militia. Fascists have a long history of recruiting maladapted, violent, antisocial types, going back to the Fascist blackshirts and the Nazi brownshirts. But there’s a crucial difference. In the interwar period, Fascists drew from embattled veterans, embittered by national humiliation and emboldened by the threat of socialism. It’s a sign of the times that in today’s conditions—widespread social fragmentation under neoliberalism, the absence of an organized left-wing movement—fascism has no real raison d’être (much less raison d’état), no outlet except in isolated bursts of senseless violence. So now fascism, which had always been the safety valve of capital, reveals itself today as capitalism’s death drive.

Fascism served a historical role, but that role—suppressing the workers’ movement, consolidating the state, feeding the war machine, even race- and nation-building—is now amply handled by normal liberal constitutionalism. Fascism, in a sense, is all surplus. It’s really unsurprising that in a time of increasing atomization and social fragmentation, even fascism manifests in pointless, undirected, isolated violence. Like I said before, it has no more use to be the safety valve of capital, and so it shows itself today as capitalism’s death drive.

I wonder what the real fascists have to say on that.

The people's community must not be a mere phrase, but a revolutionary achievement following from the radical carrying out of the basic life needs of the working class. A ruthless battle against corruption! A war against exploitation, freedom for the workers! The elimination of all economic-capitalist influences on national policy...Maintaining a rotten economic system has nothing to do with nationalism, which is an affirmation of the Fatherland. I can love Germany and hate capitalism. Not only can I, I must. Joseph Goebbels

The money pigs of capitalist democracy: Money has made slaves of us. Money is the curse of mankind. It smothers the seed of everything great and good. Every penny is sticky with sweat and blood. Joseph Goebbels

To be a socialist is to submit the I to the thou; socialism is sacrificing the individual to the whole. Joseph Goebbels

I love how capital equates to fascism in the 21st century.

"Quick! We have to find out the shooters religion/political beliefs so we know who to blame!"

Same story, new mass shooting.

People aren't interested in truth, compromise, or actual safety of Americans. People care about pushing their narrative.

The upper hand the alt-right would gain is pushing the country to further racial conflict.

That's not true. The Munich shooter was half-Iranian if I remember right and also Nazi.

I'm sure if this kid saw his name being plastered everywhere (which I'm sure he is) he'd think to himself "job well done".

I personally don't care what his background is or who he is as a person because the shootings tell me everything I need to know about him, he is a representative of himself and no one else so combing his background to somehow put blame on anyone else's shoulders but his own is stupid in my opinion. This fascination with mass murderers is bizarre in my opinion.

don't run good white nationalist/supremacists names through the mud by associating them with this half breed!!! there are some mighty fine people out there that happen to be racist and you are making them look bad by mentioning that this mass shooter was one of them!*sarcasm*

You don't have to be racist to be a hater. Police were called 20(?) times about this guy's, "pranking".

Ignored it at their peril.

It won't be the first time either, lookup Hebrides Revival.

Only this time it will be on a much larger scale, see this video for more:

You got any proof of that at all ?
Are you qualified as a clinical psychologist to know what makes up a "fascist" or "white nationalist" ?
Or just injecting your own hypothesis into this ?
When you state something as fact , you need something to reinforce what you say or else it may be construed as being a fallacious bit of political tripe.
Not basing on what you "feel" on a known , proven false remark by someone else.

Right right alt-right, gee another thread trying to claim this inbred towheaded MAGAt (sic) wasn't a racist wanna-be white nationalist/supremacist.

Here for the third time, right from the MAGAts own mouth.

Exclusive: Group chat messages show school shooter obsessed with race, violence and guns

In a private Instagram group chat, confessed school shooter Nikolas Cruz repeatedly espoused racist, homophobic and anti-Semitic views and displayed an obsession with violence and guns.

The hatred he and others in the group espoused met little resistance from its active members.

In one part of the group chat, Cruz wrote that he hated, "jews, ni**ers, immigrants."

He talked about killing Mexicans, keeping black people in chains and cutting their necks.

The statements were not made in jest. There are hundreds of racist messages, racist memes and racist Instagram videos posted in the group.
