Where did I label this as a scandal? The OP is pointing out how Trump is acting hypocritically. He supported the law when he needed it to get his wife's family here but now he wants to say it is a problem for our country. It's not supposed to be a scandal. It's supposed to get a thinking person to say, "what a minute...".

First off, they likely arent felons, so as far as my belief goes; If they arent committing crimes, they go on the back burner while we process the thugs out, which will take years.

Ahhh...Well they have two possibilities, one being a tourist visa, which would seem very unlikely for a variety of reasons (the least of which is the amount of time they have been here) and the other possibility being the Family Visa IR-5.

If it was some unknown exotic form of extended Tourist Visa you would expect the WH to quickly explain the same rather than give a defensive answer?

This was the answer when the WH was asked what Visa they were here on:

White House official answered a question about the Knavses by saying
that while they were “not going to get into specific cases,” it was a “fallacy” to think that “just because a policy was in place in the past means it should continue indefinitely into the future.”

WHY would he answer that way if they were here on a Tourist Visa?

There are "Millions" of people here legally on the Family Visa that are "thugs" and "committing crimes"?

I mean, i get the "gotcha" moment here....but what he is doing isn't illegal. He is using the immigration system as it is legally defined currently....and he is somehow derided for it?

Because each possibility comes with associated likelihood.
Like it is possible that a Mylar Balloon in a grainy youtube video is an extra-terrestrial craft, but it is more likely a Mylar balloon.

The answer the WH offered when asked what Visa the parents were here on was:
