Bit of history Vietnamese Top gun

Got this on one of the Historic forums I trawl..Have heard of some pretty basic training,especially with late Ww2 axis pilots but this is pretty out there..Brave men I would say..

Nguyen Van Bay is best known for his combat feats in the skies: seven aerial victories over the Americans flying solo in Soviet MiG-17s, making him one of only four North Vietnamese jetfighters to be recognized by both the Vietnam People's Air Force and the United States Air Force.

Nice find and really neat story! Doesn't hurt to have a healthy respect for a former enemy. Do you know in what way he was "recognized" by the US Air Force? The article doesn't elaborate. Is it talking about how it's commonly understood a lot of the Migs were being flown by Chinese pilots?
