To that degree.. a little, yeah...

It's not like just recording the dates and the happenings, it's being constantly aware, to the day, how much time has elapsed since 'x' happened. Who's that fixated that they'd have that constantly in their awareness, to the point they'd immediately go "oh and now it's the same number of days since it was pulled down that it was actually up for"

I mean, all power to whomever does it, I just don't get it myself

Hey, personal insults are against T&C's champ.

And pray tell, what precisely leads you to the conclusion that I am "a numpty"?

Is it because my view differs from yours?

Honestly, I actually had to google that word.

Perhaps he'll think you're a numpty now as well then.

Anyhoo, I wasn't meaning to be derogatory about anyone who was interested in history. I am myself interested to some extent.
However, I don't dwell on things that have happened in the past, even significant or serious happenings in my own life. I don't spend a lot of time examining the minutiae of times gone by so I guess, when I see things like this, I always wonder about the people who do... as I said initially, it was just a thought that sprung to mind

It doesn't have to be constant awareness.
At some point in the past, they make the calculation; at this future point in time, the wall will have been down longer than it was up. They mark the day in their calendar, and don't need to think about it until the day comes up.
I think it would have been a two-stage process. For years, they would have been aware that 2018 was the relevant year. When the time gets nearer, they make the calculation once for the exact day and mark it down.

On a less intense level, I knew exactly when my residence in my own home here had lasted longer than my previous hated lodgings.

You didn't live through it though did you bro? I didn't either but to think that it's somehow lame that someone counted the days is extremely ignorant and heartless.

That's a good point well explained. Thanks.

Conversely, I couldn't tell you when I moved into my current accommodation (maybe month and year, ish), started my current employment (maybe which half of a specific year) and the list is pretty much endless.

I guess some people view time, past, future, history etc very differently. I put very little stock in the past or future because it doesn't actually exist. So my life is largely now.

I guess that's why it seems a little alien to me.

Thanks for sharing your point of view

Shouldn't we be also discussing the poor souls killed while seeking freedom?

www.telegraph.co.uk...

Now we will have our own wall ...the question is...to keep us in, or them out? works both ways eh?

In honor of the occasion I think we should start building that wall between us and Mexico.

Although tragic, it is proof that walls do work either to keep people in or out.

Not really. It just proves that a wall will slow people down enough that an Armed Guard in 1 of the towers has the time to shoot and kill them.

BAM!!! Finally, something that I agree with you on!

I have many times wondered if the wall is to stop Americans fleeing the country. Seriously, it's an extremely terrifying thought.

You may think I'm a Trumpet but don't ever think that I'm unaware that this could be the Trojan Horse that finally makes the USA a massive prison.

The USA is the last bastion of true freedom. I've said a thousand times that if America falls, we all fall.

Now that news has made me feel old.

Looking for Freedom.

The dude is a legend.

If you guys in the states have not seen his Documentary Hoff the record (it is a comedy mock up one anyway) you need to find it.

The Berlin wall was erected because people were already using that border to escape into the West.
So the analogy works only if Americans are already fleeing south in large numbers. Is that happening?

I'm not talking about now. I'm talking about the future.

Kohl did jack# to unify Germany, it was nothing than a big sellout. Which is why we remain divided people, probably for more than the next 10316 days.
