'Glee' actor Mark Salling, who pleaded guilty to child porn, found dead

Rather than go to prison, Salling apparently decided it was easier to end his life. I say, good riddance. Pedophiles are not treated kindly in prison, and even in protective custody he probably would not have been completely safe. But, could he have rebuilt his life and contributed to society after being released? Or, is this something that would have haunted him until he died of "natural" causes? What would you have done if faced with the decision to either go to prison or end your life? I wouldn't be in the same position (the mere thought of child-porn is nauseating), but I probably would have done the time and tried to improve myself.

Salling's lawyer, Michael Proctor, confirmed his death to USA TODAY but did not reveal the cause of death. "I can confirm that Mark Salling passed away early this morning," Proctor said in an emailed statement to USA TODAY. "Mark was a gentle and loving person, a person of great creativity, who was doing his best to atone for some serious mistakes and errors of judgment. He is survived by his mother and father, and his brother. The Salling family appreciates the support they have been receiving and asks for their privacy to be respected."

What bothers me more is that there are so many out there (all one has to do is see how much "barely legal" teen porn is on the web).

I've often wondered when those wires get crossed in someone's head. I can't even imagine how someone gets turned on by little kids. That is some sick in the head stuff.

If he was "just" in possession" of the disgusting porn and had not acted on the child porn, his suicide is a bit confusing.

There is more to this story. His involvement "could" have included some future possible convictions, not just the 4-7 years in prison.

It is possible that embarrassment, guilt and loss of reputation could have been the cause of his taking of his life.

But, more important, are the children who were victims of this heinous crime-maybe he finally recognized that and could no longer live with his contribution to their pain. I would rather hope that was the case.

I don't think it's something that can be cured, he might been able to put it aside or ignore the impulse but deep down, it's what he likes.

This guy knew some things...He was in a position to learn about others in the industry by making friends in high places. I don't need to look up his connections but I'd guess this was a hit to keep his mouth shut.

50,000 images and 6000 videos sounds like a lot to hold on to. I don't know where this stuff comes from but I would guess maybe tor? Isn't all of that easily traceable and hosted by authority ran servers? Maybe some private networks that would be offline? IIRC, it was a gf/friend of his who tipped off authorities.

I'm not buying it. Its already a little suspect with a hanging from a tree at a park? His sentencing was also set to start in another month right?

You're spot on. This person killed themselves due to the personal guilt and embarrassment he brought on himself and his family. He was a sick individual and obviously wasn't right in the head to begin with.

This was not a hit to protect bigger fish. This guy was sick and took his own life out of shame and not being able to face the consequences of his actions.

While I don't condone his actions I do feel bad for his family.

Suicide is anything BUT the easy way and it's certainly not a way out because we are just as much alive on the other side as we are on this side.

I would never ever defend a pedophile! I want to be very, VERY clear as there is a reason we vilify them.

However given the recent news that But NOW it is being reported that the Laptop had Child Porn on it??? How exactly does that happen when there are no reports that the Hard Drive was ever recovered or found...
